Some home cookin for WMU. Hawkins has been chirping at them all game, so naturally if we breathe on guys wrong it's a foul.
Don't know why we should expect anything different, they couldn't even get a damn replay with a frozen frame right. Utter, utter incompetent officiating in this conference.

The biggest thing is that we aren't gonna beat many teams when they shoot like this. Thomas Wilder is a very good player, but he's not a "5-5 from three" type shooter. But naturally, he catches fire against us. It's happened way too many times this year. Very frustrating to fight all the way back only for that to happen.

Maybe that's because opponents don't need to think too much about defense against EMU. Just guard the guy with the ball because there won't be any good passes.

An example would be Toney's last pass...somehow Bond gathered it and hit the three.

Yeahhh I can almost guarantee it has nothing to do with that. Likely it's the conference has better shooters/players/overall talent this year. But when guys are hitting 25 footers against us every game, there isn't a hell of a lot you can do.

"10-14"

That was the game.

WMU's shooting behind the three point line.

The "EMU Steve Theorem" indicates that if our opponents shot that from behind the arc, that we lost the game.

That's all we need to know... Don't need to read dozens of posts...

Such is life in college hoops where the trey can be deadly...

Sorry for all my negativity today. Just tired of watching EMU basketball underachieve, seemingly without a plan or effective system. The glory days were 20 years ago. No reason we should wait that long. Talent alone does not win.

We're right there on the cusp. Hang in there.

BTW, I'd make some changes to next year's team:

I'd move Bond back to PG and let him and Toney share minutes.

I'd try to find a designated shooter like Max Hooper (Price was supposed to be it). I'd also like to see more rebounding out of that position.

Bond isn't a natural three point shooter so the PG spot is ideal where he can break, pass, etc. but doesn't need to rebound at 170 lbs. Not sure he rebounds or shoots the three well enough.

I think college hoops should have a three-point efficiency statistic:

WMU took 14 shots and got 30 points (10 - 14).

If WMU took 14 dunks that would have been 28 points...

We'd been better off letting WMU dunk the ball (except one of our posters would p*ss his pants) rather than shoot the trey.

Cusp of what? Mediocrity?

Glad that we have so many great breweries in our state. They come in handy after watching this team play.

There a so many guys out there in high school who can just spot up and hit threes. They cannot create their shot but they can hit an open 3...that is what we need. A Brad Soucie three point specialist. Set picks and let him rip threes and loosen up the middle for Thompson. Should not be that difficult.

It's just a shame that one of Toney and Bond isn't an above average outside shooter. Although if they were, they'd be playing at a BCS school. Both guys are skilled with the ball, but lack that outside shot to keep defenses completely honest. Willie and Price are too inconsistent and Raven is up in the clouds somewhere. Perry just can't find his shot this season, which is another disappointment. I thought he'd be a contributor.

I don't see our shooting woes going away anytime soon, but as Nickle mentioned somewhere in this thread, there are ways that coaches can work around it. I think defense is a bigger issue right now. We have to figure out why we are giving up so many points this season. Our offense has always sucked...our defense hasn't. I'm not smart enough to see what the problem is beyond Thompson having issues. Hopefully Murphy and co can figure it out.

Or think of it this way:

JT4 takes 14 shots, makes 10, for 20 points and we celebrate his big game.

WMU takes 14 treys, makes 10, for 30 points and we lose by 8 points...

Such is the 3-ball. Enough to drive a coach to drinking and not Super's hot cocoa.

Agreed. Murphy put his eggs in Price being that guy, but it just hasn't been the case. He was a lights out shooter in high school. We need to try again.

I have a suggestion for next time we play in K'zoo...

Someone p*ss off Wilder and get him tossed in the first half...

Wasn't his previous record against us last year in K'zoo.
