(02-04-2016 06:48 PM)DUKE78 Wrote:  Per today's DNR article: Waldman, who signed with Northern Illinois in 2014 but did not appear in a game that season, will have two years of eligibility remaining at JMU. “I think that was a great move because … we’ve got one scholarship guy and he’s a junior and then you’ve got two incoming freshman, so I think that we needed another guy,” new Dukes’ offensive coordinator Donnie Kirkpatrick said.

So can someone explain why Waldman would not have 3 yrs. of eligibility let? In 2014 he did not play at N. Illinois. 2015 he played at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (Junior) College. Do you lose a year of eligibility if you transfer from a Jr. College if you don't spend 2 yrs. there?

I think the article is incorrect. Not sure why it isn't common knowledge. This was Waldman's Juco recruiting page:
http://www.ncsasports.org/football-recru...ck-waldman

He says 3 years to play 3 seasons. Additionally, I never saw him listed on a NIU roster for a game.

Interesting tidbit in today's paper... Waldman will not be available to practice in the Spring as was the original plan. He has to take 3 more courses at NE Oklahoma.

Sounds like it's Schor then... Waldman competing w Schor in spring practice would have given us a QB battle

That's what it looks like to me too and I am fine with Schor. I would always prefer QB competition at Spring Practice though. I don't think Ethridge or Reese will push Schor.

In today's DNR:

"Unfortunately for JMU’s staff, Waldman – who spent his freshman season at Northern Illinois – will not be with the Dukes this spring, unlike many junior-college transfers. Bowers said Waldman still needs to complete his associate’s degree at Northwestern Oklahoma A&M before enrolling at JMU for summer classes. Waldman brings three seasons of eligibility to JMU."

I hope that I am reading this right. It sounds to me the kid simply wants to finish something that he started. A self imposed goal and what I like to see in the Purple and Gold on Fall Saturday afternoons.

Not exactly. A student transferring in from a junior college with an AA (or AAS) is exempt from the JMU General Ed requirements. If a student transfers in without the AA the student must complete the JMU Gen Ed program, which in this case may prove problematic for Waldman.

Texting under that paragraph also covers "direct social media messaging" so it does appear this was likely a violation by Withers when he was in poaching mode. Don't know what the penalties are and suspect not much will come of it.

I would rat him out but he probably did similar things while recruiting at JMU and therefore I don't want any investigations on our program so I'll let it go- besides losing Hines was probably the best thing that could have happened... We have Anthony Womack now and he is actually the guy that we want... Could challenge for playing time early...

If he goes JuCo, we may never see him in a JMU uniform.

RE: Football Signing Day
Wife was looking on the interwebs today and she came across an article by some guy who ranked the FCS recruiting classes from last week. JMU according to his rankings had the 3rd best FCS recruiting class this year!!! Unfortunately my wife does not remember where she found the link and I have not been able to locate it either.

Anyone else see this?

Watched the CCU presser about the recruiting class. In a nutshell, they had maxed out early for available scholarship offers. When they were chosen for the SB, it opened up some doors as far as recruiting. They were able to add some scolly spots and went after some 2,3, & 4 star guys, that were on the radar, but had not comitted. The class ended up with 20 recruits, not the 15 reported in the article. Draw your own conclusion from that ...
