An NFL franchise is never the friend of local colleges. I'm hoping Texas stays a two NFL team state.
Very true. North Texas has it's share of athletic administration, but the biggest detriment to UNT is being in the DFW Metroplex. Dallas Cowboys, Mavericks, Texas Rangers, etc. Sports minded people have so many "Pro" sports options. No, a Pro football team in San Antonio will not be kind to Texas State or UTSA athletics. If any of us were P5 we might do better under these conditions.

being in the metro area is a big factor because of all the pro sports options and entertainment venues to compete with but they are also somewhat of liberal artsy fartsy school with a smaller base of rabid diehard fans than you would expect for a large school. sports isnt really driving the bus there.

If the Raiders move to greater San Marcos, I would probably compare their future attendance to that of San Jose State or FAU/FIU. Similarly situated programs with challenges being near an nfl franchise(s) and in the shadow of major FBS programs (I would count UT as two FBS programs because it's such a behemoth).

Without a consistently dominant program, attendance will probably graze around the 8K to 15K range. Local media coverage will still exist, but will diminish somewhat.

Having said all of that, Texas is on another planet when it comes to football. As long as Texas State is reasonably competitive and/or the gameday experience at Texas State garners a satisfactory ROR, I think you'll find SM locals that will find time and money for both Tx St and the Raiders.

Again, most of the Raider fans would come from Austin and the San Antonio MSA, whereas I suspect most of Texas State's fanbase is within the immediate SM area.
