Or it could be one unhappy internet poster? Most fans seem fine there.

It wouldn't do much for the footprints of the conference, but it'd put an end to the markets vs on field arguments. Also, NMSU and UTEP could be real travel partners for the out-liars. Idaho would be Indy or FCS in this scenario.

The newbies are putting Loser Tech in with ULM. 03-lmfao They have no idea.
Loser Tech would drop athletics before aligning with ULM. Recently, they sat home to avoid playing them in a bowl.

I would swap ULM with Texas State. Coastal would fit in the Metro East. You could toss Idaho or UMass in somewhere to even it out.

I also don't think anything geographical happens, except that at least one FL and TX school finds themselves being pulled up for recruiting access reasons. I think the cheese separates from the curd, the meat from the fat, the silica packet from the bag of jerky.

The supergroup is out there: USM, WKU, MT, NT, FIU, Marshall, Toledo, NIU, LaTech, GSo. Room for 2 more possibly. Lots of possibilities there. I say either app and stAte or Army and Umass.

You get a couple markets, some bball, lots of football, and built in rivalries, plus the Florida, Texas, and Georgia recruiting grounds. Call it The Metro Conference and call it a day.

Actually two unhappy posters from Marshall. My point is though that there are questions being asked, and statements being made today that were not being discussed before.

RE: Time for a G5 shuffle?
I wonder what percentage of G5 fans don't actually think their school is "better" than their current situation...

(Not trying to single a fanbase out here, just illustrating the phenomenon...a few days ago I met a guy who happened to be wearing an App St. shirt...

"Are you an App fan?"
"Yeah, I went there."
"Ah, cool, I'm a Georgia St. fan. We'll get you one day."
"Well, hopefully, we will have moved on by then."

Seriously...it came up that quickly.

Also...I think Marshall fans might be really surprised at how little value is placed on their program outside of the fans of a few football schools...)

I'd have asked that App fan where they were moving on to and why? Seriously, unless the AAC is calling, where does anyone go right now that justifies the expense? It's amazing how quickly the scenery has changed in the last few days.

both conferences have become somewhat of a hodge-podge. seems like all the ad's could get together and hold a big meeting to reshuffle everyone into two groups that make more sense rivalry wise and geography wise. arguably uta's biggest rival is untexas but we are in different conferences. at the g5 level of fan support and revenue generation, I think we would be more successful by consolidating into two tighter knit groups. the fact is there will just never be any great rivalry or fan interest in some of the matchups we have now.

The only, repeat only, reason CUSA looks sexy to any AppFan that's older than 35-37 y/o is probably Marshall. But I put higher value on remaining in a conference with Georgia Southern. If App could get a home-and-home every 8 years with Marshall then I wouldn't want to move anywhere. Especially CUSA who houses UNCC and F*Us and such.

Playing ArkSt. and ULL and GaSo is just more exciting to me than the top 3 in CUSA; WKU, Marshall, SoMiss

RE: Time for a G5 shuffle?
Sorry if this has already been brought up...I didn't read back....but there's talk on another thread about the possibility of the A10 starting up football in the FBS. They would need at least 8 football playing members if I understand correctly. It's highly unlikely...just talk, but it could be an interesting option to mix up the two conferences. Say...GS, App, WKU, Marshall, A-State + 3 more would give 8 good football teams and 20 basketball teams. The basketball could split into 4 divisions of 5 and it could work out. Everyone else would consolidate into 1 conference, either CUSA or SunBelt, dissolving the conference left empty.

Sounds familiar. The Marshall fans make a valid arguement and are not really bad mouthing the CUSA. They (like many others here and on that thread) are expressing an opinion that G5 should regionalize to maximize profits and cut costs. Give the fans easier travel to away games and increase interest in rivals.

The conferences, presidents, NCAA, and fans of G5 teams really need to look at the big picture and realize that only 2 (4 at the most) will have any shot at ever moving up to a the P5 level. So the conferences need to do what makes sense and reorganize into more regional based 12 team conferences. That would also increase conference stability and pretty much shut down any more FCS move ups too. But some schools will feel "too good" to associate with others and we'll just keep this cluster moving along. For the most part the SBC has a good footprint and like minded schools that have/will develop into great rivalries. I enjoy the SBC, just hope for at least some money from TV and maybe the occasional SBC Saturday ESPN game (man wouldn't that be something UL-L vs ArkSt or GS vs APP on ESPN2/U on a Saturday at 3:30)

As much as I would love to be back in a conference with ECU, Memphis, Houston, etc., they would not invite us, unfortunately.

We take props and the AAC doesn't allow for that. And frankly, our athletic budget just doesn't mesh with the conference. It's just not big enough. Talent-wise I think we'd be competitive for the most part, but what the AAC has in budgets and what the other G5 conferences have is vastly different.

UTSA had a crapload of seniors that year due to program startup. Steep dropoff. The question is, do they have another senior-ladrn bubble coming up soon?
