Article Says NMSU & Idaho are out
Quote:Outside of the Big 12, nobody else stands to directly benefit more from championship deregulation than the Sun Belt. The conference, which currently has 11 football playing members, recently voted to add Coastal Carolina, which would give them 12. But two schools, New Mexico State and Idaho, are provisional football-only programs, whose membership is up for a vote in March. The Sun Belt is expected to vote to remove both programs (thanks to their distance and general uncompetitiveness on the football field), and deregulation would allow them to have a title game (if they wanted) without having to expand.

I think he has a premise and built BS fluff around it to try to prove that premise. I wouldn't read much into this guy.

Yeah, that article doesn't jive with anything that people on here have heard outside of NoDak.

A BYU fan blogger is not going to be privy to that information. I doubt he knows any more about any of this than the general people on these message boards.

So, do you guys think the Sun Belt is voting for or against deregulation? I assume they believe it's in their best interests to support it, but am I wrong?

Looks like B1G, SEC, PAC12 and MAC are voting against, which would mean every other conference would need to support it in order to pass.

How does voting work? Is it just KB or do the Presidents vote?

I have heard we are voting against. I would assume part of this is to keep our guarantee-game paying SEC overlords happy.

The Presidents of SBC football schools vote.

UTA and UALR do not vote. I am sure on Coastal, but they will have voice for sure.

It's dead then. That's 7 votes of 15, and I believe it needs 10 to pass.

The Vote will be on Friday at the convention. Each of the 10 conferences have 1 representative. Indys like ND, BYU, etc get no voice. The P5 conference's votes count as (2) votes and the G5 votes only count for (1). I believe if it passes with a simple majority then it will get some period of evaluation/probation but if it passes with an 80% majority it goes strait into effect.

If the B1G, SEC, PAC12, and MAC are against it that is 7 out of 15 possible votes against it. There is a lot of time between now and Friday for backroom meetings for votes to move around.

Right, because BYU is the school that has their finger on the pulse of the SBC comings and goings.

On football issues is it 2 votes for P5 and 1 vote for G5?

I thought it was 3 votes for G5 and 2 for P5 if I am correct.

"The vote consists of FBS members on the NCAA Council with a weighted structure. Votes for the five Power Five conferences count two each, compared to one vote each for the other five FBS conferences. Majority support is needed for a proposal to pass."

At this point, the P5 should just break away and do their own thing. I am beyond tired of them having their way on absolutely everything and leaving the rest of us crumbs to pick up. How is it fair that of the FBS conferences, five of them could immediately overrule anything the other five say? Even is the Sun Belt, MAC, CUSA, MWC, and AAC voted together, they would only be making up a third of the votes. That's ridiculous to me when that is half of the FBS conferences overall.

The only way a break works for G5 is if the G5 forces it to be ALL sports and the two go seperate ways.

The deal where P5 rules football, keeps everything, but uses us for the convenience of all the other sports is BS.

But the G5 will go along with getting reamed in football.
