Adjusted Standings - Week 2
Home teams were 6-4 this week, so there might be some some validity to this approach. Again, 1 point for an away win and -1 point for a home loss. 0 points for home wins and away losses.

2 points - Northeastern, Hofstra
1 point - CofC
0 points - W&M, Towson, UNC-W
-1 points - JMU, Elon, Drexel
-2 points - Delaware

(Points are YTD, cumulative.)

Observations:

1) Of the 3-1 teams, these standings show NE & Hofstra in a stronger position than W&M.
2) Of the 2-2 teams, these standings show Towson, UNC-W & CofC in a slightly stronger position than JMU & Elon.
3) This week three teams have both games at home (Hofstra, CofC & Delaware) and three teams have both games away (W&M, JMU & Drexel)

I really love this way of looking at the standings. Because it emphasizes just how important it is to hold serve at home

RE: Adjusted Standings - Week 2
At the end of the season it will be interesting to see how many HOME teams win the Saturday games. I would think the new scheduling format of scheduling games on Thursdays and Saturdays [which I do not like] would disporortionally favor the Home Teams.

As I predicted, but we'll take a crack at that very soon!

I'm looking forward to seeing that one live and in person, mixed in with some culinary tourism in beautiful Kinston, NC. I hope they have the same Charleston/UNCW trip again next year. I might be able to do both and hit even more great restaurants.

As some have said earlier, the second part of the Thursday/Saturday grouping is particularly tough on the road team. It will be a big week for the Tribe as both Charleston and UNCW are pretty good. Plus, following those games will be a better indication of where we stand having played 3 at home and 3 on the road. Other than Northeastern(good) and Delaware(bad), it is still hard to figure out the league so far. The Tribe has played well for the most part so far(excluding the terrible second half against Towson). Still expect it to be a race between Northeastern, W&M, Hofstra and UNCW when it is all said and done. Not sure if JMU and/or Charleston will also join the top group.

I'm going to rank the teams by RPI winning percentage, which uses this formula:

Away win: 1.4 wins
Home win: 0.6 wins
Away loss: 0.6 losses
Home loss: 1.4 losses
Neutral site win: 1 win and Neutral site loss: 1 loss, but there are none of those in CAA games

Hofstra: 3.4-0.6 (.850)
Northeastern: 3.4-0.6 (.850)
William & Mary: 2.6-1.4 (.650)
College of Charleston: 2.0-1.2 (.625)
UNC Wilmington: 2.0-2.0 (.500)
Towson: 2.0-2.0 (.500)
James Madison: 2.0-2.8 (.417)
Elon: 2.0-2.8 (.417)
Drexel: 0.6-2.6 (.188)
Delaware: 0.0-4.0 (.000)

There are 42 CAA games on Saturdays (I'm excluding the 3 Sunday games because Thursday and then Sunday is the same amount of rest as Wednesday and then Saturday). College of Charleston and Drexel have 5 of those games away and everybody else has 4 of those games away.

Charleston is 82 spots ahead of UNCW in the RPI.

William & Mary is a 12 seed on Joe Lunardi's Bracketology.

I'm going to rank the teams by shortest distance from Williamsburg. EvanJ showed me it's best to just pick a ranking where my team finishes first.

I picked a method that has my favorite team tied for first, but it's also a method that affects every team's RPI. You can look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rating_Per...ll_formula if you don't believe me.

RE: Adjusted Standings - Week 2
I think the system EvanJ is using actually does a better job of giving teams credit for taking care of business. W&M, for example, is given more credit for having taken of their three home games than the system I am using does.

It will be interesting to see how the ratings either converge or diverge in evaluating teams as the season progresses.

(I am still messing with my spreadsheet trying to develop formulas to calculate both ratings without as much manual data entry. Until then, it is always nice to have a separate sets of eyes.)

04-cheers

Tweet that I saw that gives a little perspective as to how far the tribe have come
"Basketball RPI update: @TribeMensHoops up to 43 in the country, VCU is 78th, ODU is ranked 171."
