RE: Northeastern
If NU had their missing starters available, we lose by 10+. The difference is, they may not have played zone with them in the lineup. May have been a blessing in disguise for NU, since we have no answer against a zone. Now, they'll know what to do at home.
So, here's the question. What do we do different strategically next time?
Normally, you use your big men in the paint to dissect a zone. Good passing leads to open baseline layups, kickouts for open 3's, or shots close to the rim. However, Getty's can't hit a layup, so we are left with driving into the zone(which creates turnovers) or shooting a bunch of 3's(which aren't reliable).
The ideal lineup for UNCW is Talley, Bryce, Flemmings, Sherwood, Bryan. That's an athletic, smart, good sized group who can flat out score and press, and impose our style of play on an opponent.
Watching this team under Keatts for two years, many of our scoring bursts on the full court press are led by Dylan Sherwood. He allows us to bring an athletic 6'9" player from the 4 spot into the front of a press, and when he traps he's impossible to pass over. Bryan does a good job at the back of the press stopping fast breaks if the press is broken, and Talley, Flemmings and Bryce are just great athletes who can get a hand on passes, make the steal and finish.
I hope the Getty's experiment is over. With him starting and playing significant minutes we looked pitiful against a bad Drexel squad, and ineffective with Gettys in the game against an undermanned NU team. He blocks some shots...that's it. In back to back starts he's contributed 4 points and 3 points in 20 mpg.
Our 7th. place preseason prediction looks possible now. If we play like this against W&M, JMU, CoC, Hofstra, Towson and even Elon, we're going to lose a lot of games.
