RE: Basketball attendance?
Anyone who is wondering about the trajectory of UTA athletics and their ability to draw just need to look at those numbers. The U is finally emphasizing athletics and it is showing. Previous high for a season was in the 2200 range. If that number holds, big if, but it will mean attendance has increased about 400% since 2011

Wow.

At least you guys have football.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: App is a football school in a basketball state. Not only is it hard for App to compete for recruits that make our program better, but it is also hard for us to get students interested and excited in the games after football season. The school is very much built around football and once the season is over, students spend their time elsewhere. In addition to all of that, but (not to make excuses) the Holmes Convocation Center is located at the corner of campus with no ample close by, limiting student and alumni access to the center. On campus students have to walk a minimum 10 minute walk in freezing temperatures for a lackluster experience that the athletic department doesn't work to improve. It's really just the perfect storm.

I wasnt trying to dis those schools, lord knows we have plenty of work to do at uta. at least we finally have a nice facility close to the students and the trend is in the right direction. we just graduated 6500+ this semester and have about 150,000 alumni in the metro area. with numbers like that we should have decent crowds at all sporting events but it is still a little of a hard sell.

I think once school starts again our numbers should go up slightly. I don't think our fans know how to act with a winning basketball team, it is definitly not the norm. Kasper might have been the best coaching decision that Teis has ever made and i'm excited to see if he can keep up this momentum in conference play.

RE: Basketball attendance?
App needs Saturday games to improve basketball attendance. 75% of our fanbase leaves 2-3 hours from Boone.

Unfortunately the only appealing OOC Saturday game was on the 19th when we were bowling.

Our attendance will pick up and get into the 2,500 range, which isn't good, but seems to be on par with the conference.

You all were Bobby Cremins first HC job. I'm surprised you never built on that.

Mostly because we made two consecutive bad hires after that, and were below .500 by 18 games in the 16 years between Cremins and Buzz.

It would sure cure a bunch of ills in regards to the Belt. Hopefully soon.

UTA stays with its average and draws 3,002. Very pleased with that number over winter break. CPC could be hopping come February.

I think Kaspar is a great defensive coach, but I wonder how good this team really is? We have played an incredibly soft schedule to this point. Our strength of schedule is #351 or last in college basketball. I know that he needs to have a winning season, but I wonder how well we will hold up in conference play? We didn't hold up well last season, but if we can score 80 like we did last night we will be very tough to beat. I just don't think we can do that again, at least not consistently. I hope I am wrong.

I have to believe the OOC schedule was to build confidence but I also wonder if it being so soft may have been detrimental. We'll see how it goes as conference play progresses.
