CJ Bryce wins second CAA Rookie of the Week
http://uncwsports.com/news/2015/12/28/MB...55026.aspx

You guys might recall how the CAA Rookie of the Year tends to get decided, at least in part, based on how many of these weekly honors are taken home. Bryce is off to a great start towards not only making the CAA All-Rookie Team, but maybe taking home CAA Rookie of the Year honors when all is said and done.

Current ROW standings:

1. CJ Bryce (2)
2. Tyler Seibring, Elon (1)
Dainan Swoope, Elon (1)
Jeremy Miller, Northeastern (1)
Nick Harris, Charleston (1)
Terrell Allen, Drexel (1)

RE: CJ Bryce wins second CAA Rookie of the Week
Bryce's line last night: 24 points (career high), 6 rebounds, 4-5 from 3-pt range (9-17 overall), 1 steal, 0 turnovers.

Safe to say he's the early favorite to win back-to-back Rookie of the Week honors if he puts up even modest numbers against Drexel and Northeastern later this week.

Could Bryce break Adam Smith's freshman single-game scoring mark (32 points @ Wake Forest on Dec 12, 2011, a game for which I was in attendance)? I know our guys tend to not get enough minutes to challenge many of our individual records, but you never know. After all, he's one of just 2 players on the roster who have started more than 8 of our games (Ponder and Bryce each have 10 starts in 11 games).

I agree with your assessment of the minutes. Seems unlikely at the rate of substitutions we see.

Possibly. I may be wrong. He played 37 minutes last night and it was not due to someone else being hurt or in foul trouble (like it was for Ingram when he played 35 minutes against G-Town due to guards being in foul trouble).

Bryce might just be THAT indispensable right now. We'll see how his minutes look in the next few games.

RE: CJ Bryce wins second CAA Rookie of the Week
One problem we have are three very short guards in Talley, Ponder and Ingram. At 6'5", Bryce brings some size and can play any of the 3 guard spots. He's a great scorer, but he can guard bigger guards, rebound and get out on the break and he can finish at the rim. None of our other guards can do all those things.

He gives Keatts a lot of options, the most important being the ability to move Flemmings to the 3 or 4 spot. Here's what he allows.

Talley, Bryce, Flemmings, Sherwood, Bryan

Ponder, Ingram, Bryce, Flemmings, Bryan

Talley, Ponder, Bryce, Flemmings, Bryan

Ingram and Ponder are pretty much interchangeable at the 1 or 2 spot, with Talley mostly playing point. None of them have the size to play the 3 like Bryce though.

Interesting thought...next year.

Talley, Ingram, Jaquel Richmond are all 6 foot tall. Richmond was a 3 star out of HS and highly recruited. He could challenge both Talley and Ingram since he is a natural PG and also a very good scorer on the drive.

Bryce is 6'5" and Jaylen Fornes 6'3". That should give Keatts the option of Fornes playing the 1-3 spots as well.

I could see Talley, Fornes, Bryce, Flemmings, Bryan playing a lot next year.

We are going to be LOADED next year.
