It's not that entirely. NIU with their injuries LIMPED into the MACC game against BGSU, as that was a buzz saw too -- but they made it somewhat respectable due to what they had on hand (only losing by 20).

Against Boise State, the NIU that showed up was the one that collapsed against Ohio, gave up 41 to Ball State, and, well, could only score 14 on BGSU. And the Boise that showed up wasn't the Boise that got completely decimated by Utah State (that MAC team Akron beat in the bowl) + losing to New Mexico at Home, but the team that beat Washington & completely decimated Virgina and Colorado State on the road.

This was an up and down year for Boise, and a down & injured year for NIU. The up-Boise showed up... while the limping NIU team showed up, without the D that stood up well against Ohio State, Toledo, and WMU. It's not purely by a "name thing" -- the Big margin of difference was the circumstances.

I also can't recall that 1 Jan 2011. NYD after the 2009 season, NYD after the 2011 season ... yeah. NYD after the 2010 season, no recollection whatsoever.

Remember when the XII was shut out of the CFP? That was pretty bad.

ESPN said last night during the Russell Athletic Bowl that Northern Iowa lost to Boise State. So at least that game is forgotten. They even put the Northern Iowa logo on the screen.

During the North Dakota St vs Northern Iowa FCS playoff game, the color guy for the ESPN broadcast called Northern Iowa "NIU".
