Going through the original trilogy with the wife this week... she didn't remember much from the films.

My wife has NEVER seen any of them all the way through. She used to go to Dragon*Con with me and was convinced that everyone could see an aura of Star Wars ignorance about her. (The first year we went, by the way, she wore her Auburn jersey on gameday since it's always the first week of football season. It was probably the only thing she could have worn that made her feel like she stuck out in that crowd!)

As to the topic, yes, I'm stoked.

RE: OT: Star Wars!
Me last night sitting at my PC thinking to myself, "I can't wait but can wait until crowds calm down some."

Then,
The husband from the living room....
"Everyone is going to see this Star Wars movie. It's a good time for us to go see "Sisters" because nobody will be at that."

Just kill me.

I'm going to go see it, simply because of the history of the Franchise. One thing I am not doing however, is going opening weekend with all the bozo's dressed up as different characters from the film.

But Star Wars comes out on Thursday while the bowl game isn't until Saturday? So there is plenty of time for fantasy movie first and bowl game second.

As a side note, do you remember when big movies were actually released on the day they said they were? The Force Awakens is "released" on Friday, but I bought tickets today for a showing on Thursday afternoon!

Traditionally the box office numbers was a Friday to Thursday thing. A few years ago they started letting Thursday evening shows count. All about marketing and the opening weekend and what is defined as the weekend. To your question I am thinking this was 6-7 years ago, but the years tend to fly by. Lord of the Rings was 14 years ago. Good grief.

RE: OT: Star Wars!
I remember back in 2005 me and my mom just happened to be walking in the mall on the Thursday before Episode 3 was supposed to be released when we walked by the theater box office and I saw that Episode 3 was about to play, so I talked her into getting tickets and we saw it right then. Now anytime I'm anticipating a movie I just go see it the day before it comes out.

My friend who thinks he knows everything said its to alleviate the crowds on opening weekend but it's amazing how few people know about theaters doing this.

It is very much to do that. Friday Night theaters everywhere will be mobbed with people planning to see this. The idea of a Thursday Night movie is that it can spread out the Friday crowd, and hopefully attract people who may wait till a matinee next week because they'd rather not fight the crowds.

RE: OT: Star Wars!
My 4 year old is hooked. He plays a star wars edition of angry birds on our ipad, and has watched the animated star wars on netflix.... then I decided to introduce him to the real thing. Every night for the past week and a half he's asked to watch "daddy's star wars". No joke we've watched episodes 4, 5 & 6 each twice. Kid loves it. Won't take him to the theater, but can't wait to red box it for him.

RE: OT: Star Wars!
I'm going to see it tomorrow with my BIL. He's a huge Star Wars nerd--completely geeked out about it. I have seen the previous ones, but I don't own any of them. Hopefully, it's good...seems to be getting good reviews. I'm more excited for The Revenant and The Hateful Eight.

I admit to liking ST: Clone Wars and ST: Rebels. Kid show or not, it is a bit of decent sci-fi.

One review here for Ep 7. Spoiler free.

Since we're talking Star Wars, and it's the season of giving, I hope I have the privilege of introducing someone on here to this:
