RE: Football Quarterfinals
NDSU is in a unique situation. There are VERY few FCS teams in that quadrant of the country. They have a strong recent history in football. They have a built in recruiting tool. Every good football player, that isn't recruited by a Big Ten or Big 12 school, almost automatically, thinks NDSU as their next choice.

They recruit heavily in the farm bred area, where the 300 pound, strong as oxen linemen tend to grow up and they are able to pick the quickest ones of those, on top of that (ask UR's linemen about that). They also, reportedly, have good relations with most of the Big 10 staffs, so they get tips on the players who could be good, but aren't going to get an offer from one of those FBS schools.

Add to that good coaching and a rabid fan base (playing in, basically, what is a large (loud) warehouse) and you have a pretty good recipe for sustained success.

RE: Football Quarterfinals
RTD article this am on UR. Their offense this year was new, they broke in a new QB and this was the first year for the new OC. Our defense better get trimmed up for next year.

Reviewed redshirt freshmen earlier. Other DBs to watch are Corey Parker and Mike Demonte. Additional d-lineman is Mike Mullin. Best bets are Murray, Suarez and Parker. LBs pushing will be Nate Atkins and Griffin Davis.

Good points all; with a glaring omission. $$$$$$$$$. There's lots of it in the Dakotas. Those guys can run and hit. They are terrific open field tacklers.

Of all the places to have FBS aspirations, Im surprised NDS doesnt try. They are in a reasonably sized city of Fargo, have the fan base and $$$.

Mountain West or MAC. MAC has 7 East and 6 West football members.

MWC also has 12 football members currently, but Hawaii is one and Ive heard is in trouble financially. Maybe HI gives up.

I'm not sure either of those conferences are eager to add trips to Fargo. NDSU doesn't seem all too interested in incurring greater costs to be a 1-A team.

Also the MAC's about to be down to 12 football teams- they're kicking UMass out at the end of the year. So they're out.

RE: Football Quarterfinals
Jax St vs NDSU may be the best championship game in years. Transfer South vs Homegrown North.

Football Quarterfinals
I watched some of the Georgia Southern butt kicking of BG. They looked pretty good. Glad we don't have to play them.

5 years in a row; it's almost like a home game in Frisco for them. One more and they tie Georgia Southern's record.

they lost 2 this year and looked very vulnerable at points during the regular season. Not vulnerable at all in the playoffs. So far, Sam Houston St. gave them the most competitive game in their 5 year run. They certainly haven't had any problems with the CAA during that time, either. I don't think they have won a single road playoff game(but that is because they haven't played any). I guess the closest comparison is either Marshall or App St. within the last 30 years. Neither of those won 5 total much less in a row. I am not up on my Georgia Southern history. Much like LeadBolt, I try to forget they exist since 2010.
