Yes. Every time the head coach left, we replaced him with one of the assistants. This was even true back in 2011 when our moron AD decided to allow half the assistants to leave before the bowl, leaving us with 4 coaches for a game against Northern Illinois.

Yup. First time Freeze wanted to coach it but our former AD didn't want that.

Malzahn and Harsin were gone, and John Thompson, our Defensive Coordinator, coached those bowls.

The Freeze Bowl we were screwed and had high school coaches filling in.

The big boys with the big money want their new coach 100% focused on their program and recruiting.

It might have been different if we didn't play in the late bowl those years - GoDaddy was always in January.

I look back on that and those 4 minor assistants and their high-school volunteers didn't do a half bad job in making it at least competitive.

Amazingly yes. We were up I think 17 points until the refs inproperly gave a first down spot to NIU on a 4th down play. Game completely changed at that point.

Don't you guys have contract issues with Fritz anyway? I thought he was holding up a renegotiated deal and buyout?

RE: Question for Ark St fans
He got around a 150 K increase last year and is somewhere in 550-600 K range now. I have heard conflicting things about buyout. Some say it is 3 years salary which would put it at 1.5 to 1.8 mil. Others say that was contingent on our Pres and AD remaining. Our Pres left 4-5 months ago. So who knows

Instead of being emersed in recruiting he seems to be chasing jobs wherever right now

Although I heard Freeze was still in contact with those coaches and helped with the game strategy and planning. He also showed up in Mobile to root on the team.

Yeah, I was waiting for the city bus outside the team hotel when he showed up. Our administration wouldn't let him in to see the team so he hung with us until they came out for the team bus.

RE: Question for Ark St fans
Ole Miss didn't want him coaching either. Thing is it was a dead period with no recruiting.

Freeze scripted the early part of the game. You could tell when the script ran out.

Still chaps me that the ACC official said that wasn't a reviewable play. Line to gain is always reviewable.
