Interesting and priceless conversation with a Vol fan and his wife this weekend at a birthday party.

In-law relative, all decked out in UT puke orange, with a snarly smile: "So, what do you think about your new football coach?"

Me, in my Tiger jacket: "Oh, man, our admin hit a home run with this guy! He came highly recommended, on Top 10 watch lists for up-and-coming coaches, great record at AZ, fantastic offensive coach and amazing recruiter, great character and leadership. We are thrilled!"

Wife, deadpan face: "Really?"

Me: "Oh, yeah! Definitely! After I saw his press conference and heard him talk about feeling so at home here and turning down so many other incredible offers at P5 schools, yes, I am pumped!"

In-law relative, face falling and looking kind of sick: "But are you sure?"

Me: "You know, time will tell, but this seems like a perfect fit for him and his family and for us. He really GETS Memphis. We can't wait for next fall!"

Vol fan walks off in complete shock and dismay...and silence.

I didn't get around to that part, or the improvements to the Liberty Bowl, because he walked off. I couldn't piss him off too bad, because he is an in-law relative. I almost felt sorry for him.

That must have been fun.

It was. They turn into robots when they get bested. It's a special kind of rude.

Gig 'em every chance you get. They got nothing to fight with except to talk about their next great recruiting class (that will fizzle out like usual)...

Things are definitely looking up on our end of the state!
