Good story in the Washington Post today about a JMU recruit from Wise High School in PG County that is playing for the Maryland 4A state championship tonight. 6-3, 215# DE that is pissed about being overlooked by bigger schools but is loyal to JMU. Has 27 sacks this season! Seems like a good get!

Sounds similar to another lightly recruited standout from JMU.

Position: DE/LB
Height: 6' 5'' Weight: 230

Name that Duke?

Moats?

Edit: Moats is not 6'5", change it to Haley.

I was going to guess Sage Harold but I think Sage is 6'3" or 6'4". If he plays at a Sage level we have a solid player for 4 years. If we have a player at a Haley level we have an amazing player.

JMU needs about 4 or 5 clones of him.

RE: John Daka
I have looked up some other info on Daka and apparently he was a WR/Safety that grew a little taller and put on 30+ lbs and was switched to LB/DE. I watched a video from when he was a WR running some pass routes and he was not a good fit there. Thankfully he has taken his size and speed into a position that he is suited. I believe he had a couple of sacks in his team's 55-6 state championship win last weekend. He may start for JMU on D next season.

RE: John Daka
If he does start, hopefully he will help Ankrah generate a better pass rush. We absolutely sucked at getting to the opposing QB this year. Never understood why our defensive scheme is to rush three 275+ pound dudes on critical passing downs. Those are supposed to be able to stuff the run and they could not do that either. Praying for an effective DL and LB transfer next year along with the return of Moreland and we could be in business on D in 2016.

Charles Haley.

If I remember right, Haley was about 5' 11 or 6' when he was recruited and overlooked by the big colleges due to his diminutive size. So, JMU took him. Then he grew like a weed during the summer between high school and college and during his freshman year, and the rest is history. Someone correct me if you have heard a different version of that story. David Robinson of Navy basketball lore had a similar growth spurt after high school.

David Robinson, after graduating from Osbourn Park High School at 6'6", grew 7 inches his first year at the Naval Academy.

Actually, Charles Haley was 6'4" as a high school senior. He put on muscle and weight while at JMU, but he came to JMU (the only Division 1 or 1-AA school to offer him a scholarship) as a tall, talented player. He just matured into his frame and became one hell of a player. I used to go to the game and just isolate on him. It was fun to watch. The same relentless drive that he had in the pros was evident at JMU.
