NIU probably goes out West, since they seem to like it out there, leaving BGSU for Go Daddy.

So you have been saying that SBC schools will be picked by the bowls, but the MAC schools seem to get thier preferences! I don't buy that.

Everyone handles bowls differently. MAC just sorts of assigns schools places based on matchup. Only known contract is that Go Daddy picks 1st, rest is up in the air.

The more I learn about SBC's bowl process, the less I like it. We need divisions, a championship game, and a better bowl deal. And we need our damn conference to win thier OOC games. What's it gonna take to get everyone to realize we are doing this thing Bush league?

I disagree. First off I like that our bowls are all relatively close to the majority of our schools. And secondly, I like that there's some thought put into who goes where in order to make the venue more attractive and accessible to the fans. Bowls are all about making money and the SunBelt is doing as good a job as anyone at keeping their primary bowl sponors happy via tickety sales. Happy bowl sponors means continued bowl games and tradition being built.

It was a trade off, and a very good trade off for the league, but there are different ways to do it.

Outside of Go Daddy at one, the MAC does not have a pecking order. The League basically gets to assign teams to the bowls that they want the team to play in. But in exchange, the MAC does not have a single bowl tie in North of the Mason Dixon line. Every bowl is a long trip for fans, so fans don't travel. It's why they can get away with assigning teams. The bowls they are contracted with know that they will be relying on the other conference rep to provide fans. Georgioa Southern will outnumber it's MAC Opponent like 50-1 in Mobile.

CUSA has no pecking order, rather the Champion gets to choose which bowl they want to play in, and from there, the league office works with teams to assign them to different bowls. While there is an advantage to this strategy, again, there is a lack of really local bowls to tie too. They have Dallas and New Orleans, but for most fans, the only way they are going to get to travel to their bowl involves buying a plane ticket.

The Sun Belt had the option of taking bowls in large cities, but the league preferred having all of it's bowls located within a few hours of most of the fan bases in the league. That's the trade off. If you'd prefer, we could go back to the old days when we had a tie in with New Orleans, Mobile, and Detroit, and App could be spending their Christmas in Scenic Detroit, Michigan

Remember, the Sun Belt has Quadrupled its bowl tie ins in the last 7 years. We've got long term contracts with each game, and no bowl appears to be interested in dropping us for someone better...mainly because they know our fans will travel.

I do like the idea that the Belt has opted for bowls that generally lie within the footprint of the conference.

RE: Brett McMurphy Says Sun Belt Bowls are Set
Let's get real.
The MAC and CUSA assignment system boils down to the schools saying "please send us to X" and the bowls scrapping over who they actually take while the league office tries to negotiate and deal to make as many happy as possible.
The nice thing CUSA does is let the champ pick.
With the MAC the distance involved for their ties generally means the bowls are agnostic and willing to work.

For the most part I like the way the Sun Belt handles bowls and the location of these games, but the only downside is teams are more likely to go to the same bowl year after year. Just look at how the stAte fan support dropped for GoDaddy after 4 years. This can also lead to some schools being left out due to distance like Texas State. Hopefully that won't happen as much with 4 tie-ins and possibly a 5th. Assuming we have enough teams to fill them of course.

To me this has been the biggest letdown this season. The conference finally gets 4 bowls and a backup agreement and we can only get 3 teams (baring major upsets) eligible. I was really hoping we could get that Medal of Honor tie next year but if they are looking at this year they may shop elsewhere if the NCAA will even approve a new bowl game now.

OOC man. We have to win our OOC games. Some of these schools need to realize that there is a good chance that folks in the middle of the conference may easily have 3-5 losses in conference. That means no room for scheduling up in 2 OOC games per season.

You start the conference race with two or three losses you will be in a world of hurt... especially if your schedule also includes 3-4 of the top teams in the league.
