Army wouldn't accept. After yet another basketball upset northern Iowa is looking really attractive to me

UNI doesn't have the drive nor the funds to make a move. If I'm not mistaken, they had to drop some of their Oly sports a few years back because of budget issues.

With Air Force and Navy having places in conferences in the G5 I feel it potentially could make sense. They have a loyal fan base and would bring a bit of attention to this conference. Just wondering others opinions on it? Also do yall think Army would be interested?
Hmmmm...interesting

Some of you have an overinflated view of what Army is today.

I agree they are a AAC team at best.

I would love that to happen. I think it would be in Army's interest for a few reasons. First, let's face it, they could probably win 6 games in this conference and get to a bowl game on a regular basis. Second, there are a lot of Army bases in the Southeast (Ft. Benning, Ft. Stewart, Ft. Gordon just in Georgia) they could draw decent crowds and have better access to talent down here. On the other hand, both Navy and Air Force are in objectively better conferences and Army knows that. They would rather stay independent than accept an invite from a "lesser" conference.

I think you'll eventually see the AAC try to get all of the service academies. Army would be a nice travel partner for UCONN although the rumor is that the AAC and UMASS are in talks) and it would not destroy the Army/Navy game with the revealing of the CFP final poll.
No, Army hasn't been great recently, but if the AAC could get them AFA and perhaps BYU, they could have a real edge on everyone.

As I mentioned to you, UMass is in talks with the AAC but the talks aren't particularly close to conclusion. Memphis was in talks with the Big East almost a decade before they actually joined.
There has to be some movement from the B12 first before anyone is joining the AAC. UMass even Army do not have a lot of conference wide support because of the weak football they play.

I'm worn out on expansion talk, to be honest. I want to just sit back and let the SBC get settled with the new adds; which includes us, GS and USA. We haven't had a stable (group) conference in several years and I'd like to just get us to a reasonable number of a solid core of teams for a while.
Unless a P5 conference starts some domino effect I'm good where we are now. (Hopefully we'll start pulling some weight around here by then.)
You've got Coastal transitioning in from 2016-18 and possible expulsion of NMSU, Idaho football only. The SBC is going to be busy for a while.

I like you all and wish you well in your pursuit of success at the FBS level. But as long as Navy and Air Force compete in the AAC and MWC, Army will not join the Sun Belt. Honestly, I would rather drop to the Ivy or Patriot League than the Sun Belt, only because of perception.
I do think we could win in the Belt and the MAC, but image is important. And independence is equally as glamorous as the AAC and MWC.

Army would not win the SBC. It is basically a FCS program.

I didn't say we would win the SBC. I said that we could win in the SBC.

Yeah I can see preferring aligning with limited scholie schools who are eggheads over being in the Sun Belt especially if you can't win the league.
Army would be better served in CUSA. The Sun Belt who moved there have improved their win totals against the "tougher" competition.

From all accounts, our AD prefers the Ivy League. I prefer remaining independent. It is more prestigious and noteworthy in their era of conference conformity.

I think finishing over .500 more often than twice in two decades ought to be the critical concern and don't see any particular prestige associated with persistent futility as an independent.
Not sure conference affiliation can do much about it, especially with Air Force and Navy viable competitors in MWC and AAC now. The persistent deployment of ground forces probably has more negative impact than league affiliation.

It ought to be the critical concern, but as long as the current AD and administration remain in place, conference affiliation won't change the bloody disaster. Unless, we schedule the FBS version of Savannah State 10 times.

None taken.
The Sun Belt has long term potential. Focus on that instead of trying to revitalize a team whose administration doesn't really care.

I remain convinced the recruiting profile has been wrong at West Point. Army has had fewer southern players on roster than Air Force and Navy. I can't think off the top of my head of any kid we've been after who had Army in the mix, we bump into AFA some and go up against Navy nearly every year on a player or two.
From what you are saying it makes me suspect the AD has a tougher acceptable player profile.
