I feel like I've made this same tweet every year I can remember. For a team that supposedly shoots as well as the tribe do, how do they miss so many free throws? Cost them a huge game today.

Unbelieveable! Two straight Offensive rebounds off missed free throws.

Tribe showed good fight.

Had the chances to win, but didn't get it done today.

Lost it at both lines. Missed FT's and missed rebounds off FT's.

That is what happens when the team plays relatively hard fought game on Thursday night. Get up early the next morning to fly half way across the country and then play one of the toughest teams on your schedule early afternoon Saturday - lots of missed foul shots and discombobulation in general.

We did not play well overall but it was still a strong effort by the Tribe vs a very tough team on their home court.

Tough loss guys but you're playing great. Looking like the top dog in what promises to be a very competitive CAA this year.

RE: Dayton Flyers
I'd say the CAA as a whole is tough this year. Every night could be a dog fight. If the CAA keeps with the strong OOC play, we may be looking at a return to multiple bids. Not bad for a conference "going in the toilet" after the departure of VCU, ODU, & GMU.

RE: Dayton Flyers
Mr.J, the CAA has a great footprint for basketball, and great schools in that footprint. The only real question is, how dedicated are our member schools to excellence in basketball? With the free for all in FBS football, creating an ever greater separation from FCS, it would make sense for the CAA schools to focus on basketball. We will all get shots at big time schools in basketball that simply do not exist in football, and that alone makes basketball desirable.
The Tribe seem very suited to change their focus, since FBS has never really been your goal. Because of that, you haven't gotten into the football arms race that JMU and Delaware have engaged in. And with the schools without football in the CAA, we should have the chance to make a nice move.

No reason Tribe cannot improve its basketball team while keeping on the same course in football.

This alone is cause for and warrants a loss. Unforgivable.

RE: Dayton Flyers
This was a very strong performance by the Tribe, equally as encouraging as the rout of NC State.

Playing a fourth game in eight days against a well-rested powerhouse that steamrolls teams in their packed arena, we took it took them all game. Most encouraging was we came from nine down late in the second half to take the lead.

The two offensive rebounds near the end was not the difference...our foul shooting cost us the ball game..
11 for 21 way below our standard. Make 4 or 5 more and we win and more pressure on them.

Dixon great shooting and Sheldon strong. Omar had offnight shooting (4 for 11). Tarpey had his usual string game other than he, to, missed some shots.

Watching football and listening to bb and I didn't hear why Whitman was out. Did they say how long?

Tony very positive on radio afterwards.

Watched 4th Tribe basketball game in row ... haven't ever been able to, nor wanted to do that. Very enjoyable style of play to watch ... out of control at times ... but very hard nosed, relentless, and no quit.

Yes, today was woulda, coulda, shoulda.

Bottom line ... team proved they can compete with most NCAA teams ... even on the road.

This could be a very interesting year .... especially if the bad losses are avoided.

They should be a post-season team ... depends on the alphabet.

UVA will be a tough game, but no reason we don't win out the rest before conference play. An at large is still a tall order, but the way we are playing combined with the initial success the CAA is having out of conference could just be a perfect storm. Need to prevent bad losses though. A loss to UVA and Dayton on the road are forgivable, but can't have any other non-conference losses and few, if any, in conference. Or we could just win the tournament in Baltimore!

I think Dayton has won something in the neighborhood of 25 games in a row at home. We gave them all they could handle after they beat Bama by 32.

Only 65 more posts until I can give rep for posts like this. The Dayton game gets me excited for our season, although I'm a little concerned with our on/off switch. I don't want another bottom of the conference loss to keep us out this year.

Dayton message boards very complimentary of us for the most part. They mention that we are a tough team, will be in the bubble mix, and will go down as a good win for their program. Funny this is after many predicted a pretty lopsided loss pre game.

I believe the horrendous free throw shooting was largely what defeated us. We certainly made mistakes in other areas as well, but the Flyers made just a tad fewer.

Anyway, on to the next. The season is very young, but I think we all deserve to me optimistic. (Wow, did I just say that?!)
