Brown and Lee have been huge disappointments so far. How did we almost lose to bama state at home??
How did Virginia Tech lose to them at home?
Maybe VT is really bad? We played a terrible game and still beat them somehow..

Pretty big difference in free throw attempts. Home cooking? Isn't that what many of our fans said about the Auburn game? You're right, especially about Lee.

This team is not playing with the psyche needed to handle success. Brown and Lee, our preseason all-CUSAers, have been no shows. Did the team think that success would just come to them and teams would lay down for them? I'm beyond worried at this point. I did not see us playing so poorly against Al St, no matter how good a team, by their standards, that they had..

Lot of work to do in practice before Thursday. Troy could beat us.

We will lose to Troy if we play like we did tonight.

There was an actual reason for the free throw discrepancy when there's a 10 foul difference.
ASU fouled 29 times and UAB shot 40 free throw attempts. (1.38 FT's per foul)
UAB fouled 19 times and ASU shot 21 free throw attempts. (1.11 FT's per foul)
Auburn fouled UAB 19 times and UAB shot 11 free throw attempts. (0.58 FT's per foul)
UAB fouled Auburn 20 times and Auburn shot 31 free throw attempts. (1.55 FT's per foul)
If you can't see the difference in those numbers then I don't know what to tell you.

Man, we're a fanbase of extremes
At this point, I predicted we'd be 1-1. I'll carry on

Don't worry. Worrying comes from expectations. UAB and expectations don't mix. It's been that way with multiple coaches in football and basketball.

I was just thinking the same thing tibber. In my 10+ years as a fan, we are always pretty darn good underdogs, but when we are favorites or have any sort

Did you expect us to require possibly the dumbest play we will see all season to bail us out to beat Alabama state by two points at home?

How many 3 pointers have we committed fouls on this year? Three I think? Pretty crazy so far.

You wonder why several players aren't performing very well? I suspect that the team is a bit overworked, a bit too much emphasis on practice and preparation and not enough time to recover, physically. Haase may be running them a bit too hard in practice. This team needs rest, particularly their legs.

SWAC is going to be a fun league this season. Southern beat Miss St tonight 76-72 @ StarkVegas.

I honestly don't remember so many upsets in the early goings of CBB season like there have been this year.

Well, we've played terrible for two straight games. Could easily be 0-2 or 2-0 right now. If this is our worst, then it's not too low of a floor, and presumably, the ceiling is still high. Honestly, we shouldn't be too surprised at the level of play. After all, this is the same exact team from last year.
Turnovers and three-point shooting are hurting us on the offensive end. 18 turnovers is 18 less opportunities to score, which pretty much equals 18 less points.

Of hype, we usually fold like lawn chairs..
If you didn't notice, we did not fold tonight. We held on and won. We faced an instate team that was coming into the game knowing they had the guns to pull an upset over big brother. We held on and they went home disappointed.
Friday night, we didn't fold, we hung tight and even took the lead late in the game when we could have folded early in the game when things were going badly.
This team is extremely poised and business like. There does not seem to be ups or downs. As coach said, the mistakes are all correctable and this team is a teachable team.
Two weeks from now, the closeness of this game will be forgotten. All that will be remembered is it was a win. I feel confident that this team will continue to improve as the season goes on.
We didn't fold to the point to lose tonight, but we lost a 6 point lead with about 1:15 to go, fouled a guy on a three point shot, and required the dumbest play you may see all season to bail us out. I feel more down about how we won this game than how we lost the first game. I think we actually played worse tonight than we did against auburn. We had tons of missed freethrows and turnovers.
Friday, I saw a team that played pretty poorly, but kept fighting back to tie the game and eventually take a lead late. Tonight I saw a team that played extremely poorly and tried to give the game away in several ways to an inferior team at home.

I only listened to audio broadcast. Did we play tight because of the actually-decent-for-once student section?

RE: Official Alabama State game thread
Some of the guys are just in a minor slump, and I'm not surprised that they have quite shaken it off just yet. I'm just glad to see they made an impact on the game however they could. Mehenti still has trouble with handling some of those quick passes, but he's better at finishing now for sure. I also get that having him at the top of the key is to create more space in the lane, but I'm not a big fan of it. I feel like Cokley should probably start, but I can understand wanting to reserve that boost from the bench. Brown's jumper isn't in good form, but I like that his aggression is still there. Lee still has a lot of presence on the floor, but it just hasn't really turned into as many points as I'd expect. Norton still has some trouble on defense, but at least teams have to respect the potential of his threes. Williams played really well, and surprised me with how well he seemed to fit in this early.
Two big takeaways from the game is not taking advantage at the free throw line, and perimeter defense. Free throw percentage was a big part of the reason the guys could put teams away. I hope they clean that up in the upcoming games. The defense wasn't horrible. I liked that the switched to a zone a couple of times to try and bottle ASU up. It's just that you can't give guys that much leeway when they're knocking them down like that.
All in all, UAB hasn't played that well and still managed to win a game and barely lose another. I'm just glad that the W was picked up tonight and I hope some adjustments are made to get things rolling.
