Meh, we were one hot-handed Dixon from beating LU by 20 points. Turnovers and poor shooting smells like fatigue more than anything. Need to get our legs and get ready to play the powerhouse known as Washington Adventist. Norfolk State beat them by 20 tonight.

I was at the game tonight and couldn't believe this was the same team that beat NC State! Yes, we got a lot of opportunities in the paint, but focused so much on that aspect of the game that we never got into any rhythm from the outside.

We rarely challenged LU when they got into the paint! Defense was not on track tonight. Maybe, we just felt the letdown from the State game and that's all.

A win is a win.

Like I said, so/so win for the Tribe playing the lowly Flames, small, short and young. Since LU only lost by 11, I'll claim victory since it was less than 20. But our women are very strong and play NC State Friday in Lynchburg. Gotta find some silver lining.

I agree that it is hard to believe this is the same team I saw play Friday night. Thanks for coming over and introducing yourself.

Okay, you claim victory and we'll take the official win. It'll be our little secret.

Good to meet you. Nice to put a face, to a name. We will be in Richmond on Saturday--may see you there.

This year LU will have lots of moral victories and few official wins. The speed and flow of your offense was distinct and impressive. The quick cuts and high screens schooled LU on how to run the pick and roll. The versatility and quickness of W&M was clear. A nice team. Hope you guys do well. LU will be more competitive next time.

A double digit loss at home is a moral victory?

Maybe you should just shutter the program.

If these were the rules the Tribe never would have happened, the team would have been disbanded back when we were still Indians.

RE: @ Liberty
As some others have commented, capped off by Tony Shaver in his post game interview, this was an important and very good win for our Good Guys. We won a game, and a road game to boot, where we didn't play very well, had every reason to be less focused after the smashing victory at NC State, and trailed into the second half....all a prescription for disaster. But this team has character and depth..and won it going away to open the season with two consecutive road wins for the first time since 1945!

Some observations:

*Our centers....Sheldon (12) and Whitman (9)...scored an impressive 21 points and defensively were outstanding.

*W&M's second half defense tightened up and played lights out defense, holding Liberty to just 21 points.
We were right on them consistently and gave them few open shots.

*The bench showed the great depth this team has: Malinoswki terrific in second half and his game of 8 points and 8 rebounds was outstanding; Schlotman calmed everyone down and played tremendous defense
as well as passing well; Whitman had his best game yet in a Tribe uniform with 9 points and 3 offensive rebounds as well as some nifty offensive moves under the basket; Burchfield's timely two three pointers
(does he ever miss?).

*Outstanding team rebounding (38 to 21)

*Great passing to set up baskets all evening...15 assists on 25 total baskets. Some very good give and gos.

I never complain about a road win.

Funny, it wasn't that long ago that I was considering double-digit home losses "moral victories".

Usually when we get around 10 points and 10 rebounds from the center position, it puts us in a good position for the win.

When the shots aren't falling or the other teams take away the outside game away from us, it's even more important to have a monster game down below. Kudos to Sean and Jack stepping up big.

I can't remember a game last year where we only made two 3 pointers and escaped with the win.

I don't have the exact numbers, but there is an amazing win rate for us, when we win Points in the Paint.

As far as I can tell, NewTimes came to our board, was polite & respectful and very complimentary of our team. Not sure why we are giving him a hard time. And, as others have pointed out, claiming moral victories is a practice in our not-too-distant past.

I also thought that comment was totally unnecessary. We are frequently on the receiving end of comments like that. When we finally have a respectable program we shouldn't be acting in that manner.

If they do, I pretty much agree with them. (An opportunity for one, anyway).

RE: @ Liberty
My thoughts:

LFSN put out a top-notch broadcast. Their announcers were knowledgeable and very complimentary of our team.

While that wasn't our best game, it is unrealistic to think we are going to play at the level we played at NCST every game and blow out every opponent. The good news is we won a game where we did not shoot well from outside. We were able to compensate by patiently running the offense to get easy points in the paint.

I came away fairly impressed by a young Liberty team. Give them some credit. They played hard and they had some nice inside-out offense with a good big and some guys that could burry it from 3. I think time will prove this to be a pretty good road win.

I can now see the dilemma at PG. Schlotman has improved his confidence and was excellent protecting the ball and running the offense. His defensive effort is also impressive. Unfortunately, he did not look to score or drive except for one time late, which resulted in a questionable charge call. Cohn obviously brings a speed and quickness aspect that is unique to the team and he is much more of an offensive threat. He obviously needs to pick his spots to be aggressive better than he did last night. His defense also lags Schlotman, though I think he gives decent effort. The same can be said for Burchfield, love to have his shooting on the floor, but he presents a defensive liability. Be interesting to see how this PG situation evolves over the year.

Yikes, I didn't mean it to be apparently that disrespectful. Bad attempt I guess at humor. My apologies if that was the case to NewTimes.

I like Liberty and this has been a good series.

That said - It is equally annoying to me that some here also dissect every post and comment as to whether it meets some PC standard. It's a sports message board for crying out loud.
