We need to continue avoiding home losses, pick up solid road wins (like JMU @ Richmond), and pull an upset or 2 (like the Tribe at State)
Did you guys see Georgetown lost to Radford in Double OT in their Home Opener?? They may be ripe for another upset next month!
I was kind of hoping we'd be the team to "shock" the Hoyas, but hopefully they'll reel off a bunch of wins before we face them, starting this week with games against Maryland and Wisconsin.

True true, we need them to be strong because they are going to be our biggest non conf game of the year.

I also forgot that we play Radford Dec 19, one week after facing Georgetown. So hopefully BOTH teams have success leading up to those games.

RE: CAA basketball - 2015-2016 season
VCU beat Radford by 18 last night. They have a lot of athleticism and senior leadership (7 seniors), but they're pretty undersized. They play really hard and are well-coached as Mike Jones was an assistant under Shaka Smart at VCU.
I think UNCW has the personnel to beat them. I certainly don't think they'll out-athlete UNCW as Keatts has brought in guys who can simulate the kind of full-court pressure he employed at Louisville under Rick Pitino. While Radford beat Georgetown, after watching them play the Rams, I think that was much more a case of Georgetown being caught unprepared to start the season against a hungrier opponent. Not sure how good the Hoyas will be this year, but there is still a ton of season left.

RE: CAA basketball - 2015-2016 season
Also, pertaining to future OOC opponents, Georgetown nearly defeated # 3 Maryland last night, falling 75-71. Hopefully this means they AND Radford (who beat Georgetown Nov 14) are both pretty good. As mentioned previously, we face both Radford and Georgetown this season as part of a 3 game road trip Dec 12-19.
Meanwhile regarding other OOC opponents:
ETSU beat Green Bay to start 1-0 against D-I.
ECU started 2-0 with wins over Grambling and Charlotte.
Utah Valley (0-1), UMKC (0-2) and Campbell (0-1) are all winless against D-I.

RE: CAA basketball - 2015-2016 season
Drexel has their hands full with HP. Very solid program coached by, I think, a former GMU assistant. I'd consider 10-4 by the CAA to be a strong showing through the end of the week and 9-5 to be better than expected. Early season games are ripe for upsets.

Scott Cherry's notoriety definitely stems from his stretch as a GMU assistant.

It was just a 2-point game between Drexel and High Point with under 2 minutes left, but HPU pulled it out, 75-66. Drexel falls to 0-2.

Bruiser actually has had a good deal of non-conference success over the years. It wasn't long ago they knocked off Louisville on the road and made the preseason NIT "Final 4" in MSG. More recently (2 years ago, I believe) they kept it within single digits against UCLA and Arizona. He always schedules solid OOC foes and at least puts up a fight. And High Point won 20 games last season. If only his team could stay healthy they'd get back to winning big OOC games.
It's the CAA opponents who are familiar with him who fare well against him. They know his team's tendency is to beat themselves.

Streaming the OK St-Towson game now. Towson missed their first 6 shots from the field but are only down 4-0 at the first media.
OK State seems to recognize Towson's strength in the post and are playing it tight, forcing Towson to hit jumpers. Let's hope they can start knocking them down and maybe pull off an early "signature win" down in Charleston.

2-19 from the field now. Yuck. Tigers are lucky to only be down 10-4 at the 2nd Media, and are headed to the FT line.

Wow. Towson just called for a tech for not having a player in the official scorebook. C'mon Coach Skerry...get it together!

Towson down 32-21 at the half. The Tigers are outrebounding OK St 31-23 to keep them in it, but are a miserable 8-41 (20 %) from the field.

Towson was down big but a 9-0 run cuts the lead in half. 50-41 OK State, under 8 minutes to go.
Winner of this game faces George Mason, who upset Ole Miss earlier in the day. A Towson-Mason winner's bracket game on Charleston's court would be pretty funny.

69-52 final, OK St moves on. Towson falls to 1-2.
CAA is now 11-6 against D-I teams. Pac-12, Big East, Big 12 and Big 10 are now all on our heels for the top spot in the Conference RPI rankings, lol.
