backup QB
I don't understand why a backup QB doesn't play in blowouts.

RE: backup QB
You could say that about every position on the field. But, then again, I have been saying that about Jimmye's teams for 30 years.
It seems incredible to me that William and Mary is 7-2, and has numerous blowout victories to its credit, and yet has a backup quarterback that has thrown exactly one pass this season. If Cluley gets hurt at any point, we are in deep ****.

Tribe played 50 guys at Elon. I understand about the QB question, but we routinely play a lot of people.

I have no idea why Cluley, Abdul Sabour, Anderson, or several of the offensive lineman played in the 4th quarter. Or really the 2nd half.

RE: backup QB
On the last offensive possession, I thought it was odd that Cluely was in handing off to the 3rd string tailback. I realize the backup QB would have just gotten practice taking a snap and turning around to hand off, but it seemed strange.
Do we have a deal where the backup QB might red shirt if not used?
Wake did that a few seasons ago, the #2 QB was a red shirt, unless the #1 was injured. The #3 did whatever mop up duty they had.

RE: backup QB
McKee has already redshirted. So he's available to play.

RE: backup QB
Does anyone know why Mosley came in for that one random series in the middle of the Hampton game? He rushed twice and on third down, I could have sworn he attempted a pass but the attempt is credited to Cluley on the play-by-play log.
Was that to get him on tape for the upcoming opponent (JMU), or was it an injury to Cluley? Seemed like a strange time to bring him in but then McKee (instead of Mosley) came in to mop up. Just curious while we are discussing backup QBs.

Dunn was getting most of the 4th qtr reps, and also keep in mind few teams have 2 #1TB's, those guys need touches too.
Most FCS schools have probably 2 at the most 3 quality back ups on either line. By quality it means guys that are ready to play. Just because you carry 11-13 olinemen, doesn't mean they are all ready to play.
I would argue putting the #2 qb in with other backups, against a team who still has 1's in, is probably not the best idea, unless you are up by 30+.

I noticed when he came in, also. On his 2 runs, it looked like the plays were designed runs, ie when Saboor takes a direct snap. Moseley didn't even glance downfield. And he came out for 3rd down, yielding to Cluley.

RE: backup QB
looked to me like Cluley was briefly banged up and just needed to get re-wrapped, looked at by the training staff, etc.

Good points -- it was 34-6 for a lot of the 4th quarter though and I can't really understand why they could not bring one of the other QBs to hand off and at least get Jones and Martinelli out of the game.

Cluley was lined up wide on those plays. My guess is they wanted to put it on tape.`
