Late whistles
I'm not sure if this is just me and someone let me know if I'm crazy... I've watched a ton of SBC games this season and I've seen really late whistles on almost every play. Sometimes it is 3, 4, 5 seconds after the play should have been blown dead. I think this has lead to a ton of personal fouls to almost every team. These guys are taught from the age of 6 to keep playing to the whistle, but you know they can tell the play should be dead, don't hear a whistle and boom! Shoving match has broken out, someone swings a punch or a player gets shoved on top of the pile late. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me??

RE: Late whistles
We've just had inadvertent whistles. 07-coffee3

No, but I do agree I've seen this a bunch.

RE: Late whistles
I swear, I think the refs forgets it sometimes. Until they see the players are still playing.

RE: Late whistles
The play ends the play. Not the whistle. A whistle is not needed on every play, which is to limit inadvertent whistles.

We just talked about this Thursday night. Late in 4th well after game decided, very late whistles. Something Sunbelt should address.

RE: Late whistles
We benefited from these late whistles on a couple of plays against TXST. I know of one play where we were stopped for about a two yard game and whistle should have been blown and we ended up picking up 4 or so more yards.

This, I thought there were a few plays in our game where, to me and obviously the players, forward progress had been stopped for a good while and the players let up and the ballcarrier would gain a first down instead.

Doesn't matter though because our guys should have played to the whistle anyway. I'm still waiting for us to get one of those ridiculous calls that everyone knows is wrong go toward our benefit!

I have also noticed too many late and inadvertent whistles this year. There seems to be too many flags thrown as a whole. This league can't possibly be that bad, IMO.

We also had a prime chance where Ellison could have been nearly decapitated.

He was down a split second on one play, with his knee barely scraping the ground and it looked to the 2nd defender as fast as Ellison popped up, that he was still 'in play'. The refs should have blown a whistle when he was down and finally did when Kevin spun back around to drag his other ankle out from a defender who had locked up on it. The 2nd TXST player just missed hitting him, and this was at least 2 seconds after Ellison's knee had hit the ground.

It balances out in the long term, but I agree with the premise of the original post. Needs some improvement.
