Quote:We have a better team this year than last.

On offense, we do. Our D can step up, and it can be scored on. That's one thing I worry about when facing good Os.

Quote:Remember that we lost to UT in OT on a missed xp last year.

True. I don't think Toledo's much better (good then, good now; but their QB kinda sucks). However, missed XP -- that can still happen and is a concern. Haldeman can nail a 42 yard FG, but he's capable of missing an easy layup or XP once in a while. But you point out that yes, as far as Toledo & NIU are concerned -- there should be no expectations that we're some solid underdogs or anything, no. My take is that the advantage leans their way, mainly being in their house. And unless you're CMU, NIU does Very Well in their house.

Quote:We had NIU down at half and forgot to come out for the second half.

Yes and no. NIU makes adjustments and can shut people down. They did that against Toledo this past game, and they did it to us at the end of the year last year. So one has to give credit to them too on that, as it wasn't just purely us falling asleep at the wheel. With their backup QB and their #1/#2 WR out, they Came Back to beat @Toledo. Quite impressive.

Quote:No reason we don't win out and go to Detroit for the MACC.

There's no reason we can't compete for it and be in the real running for it, yeah. But there's no reason we should think we're in the same position BGSU is, in the West. There's no reason we should expect to go 3-0 in the big 3 games.... there's no reason to expect we should go 0-3 either. Point being, I don't see it as a "We're up Here, they're down There".

BGSU is a 4.5pt favorite, in Kalamazoo. I see that as a reasonable POV.

It's on ESPN, so on ESPN3.com, it will be up there for months for replay in HD. FREE for anyone to watch re-plays for any game aired by ESPN.

The game was on CBS, not ESPN...

OH, I thought he was talking about the upcoming game against BGSU since we were just talking about what-to-expect-of-WMU! :)

Defense not as good as last year?

DBs equal, which is good, because last years were excellent
DEs better
DTs worse
LBers better and much deeper
Pass defense, worse, but I think we've faced better QBs this yr.
Run defense, better

The major improvement to the defense is the TOP by the offense.

Since the last quarter of the Chimp game the offense has owned time of possession and has kept the defense off the field. TOP could be the disrupter of Falcon fast.

That just fired me up. Let's play it tomorrow.

IMO our pass defense has actually been pretty good for the vast majority of the year, with the CMU game being the notable exception. For the most part, we even kept the MSU and OSU passing games in check (though there were a couple of breakdowns in each game).

Where our defense has gotten shredded at times has been against the run. Georgia Southern is the most obvious example, but even EMU was able to run at will against us at times.

The next three games will be measuring sticks for our D (pass D against BG; run D against NIU and Toledo). We'll have a pretty good idea of just how much our D has improved after the next three games.

True. And BG has a good O all-around. Much like facing our O, teams are in difficult situation. We could keep MJ's passing in check, but they'll roll in running, thus opening it up for him. Despite me being a mild MSU fan, Cook is not a great QB. When you struggle to pass over 50% in too many games, that's not good. Everyone plays the whole "dropped passes" schtick. Him, and obviously OSU's QB struggling situation wasn't the best. Both do not have BG's QB. We will get Torched, but the question is, is whether we hold them back when it's more crucial and can we keep up in points? We will do the latter as long as MJ and the gang coming into Kzoo don't go buck wild.
