How can you lose to Georgia State and beat UMass? It seems to me that this year's Ball State team is a bit schizophrenic. Their offense is pretty good but their defense is one of the worst in the conference.

Not to mention they coulda/shoulda beat Northwestern in Evanston. I wouldn't put any money on this in Vegas, with BSU being so unpredictable. Feels like a W, but not the blowout we've become accustomed to seeing.

Like WW said, we're getting to the part of the schedule where we need to be careful of these slow starts and unfinished drives, as it'll be harder to just "pour it on" after halftime.

I'm wondering if folks think we have some kind of formidable brain trust analysis team working out halftime adjustments. It's pretty clear we are hard to stop in the second half. Why? Better conditioning? Better depth? Better adjustments?

Central Michigan scored 39 points at Western Michigan, 23 at Ball State. U-Mass scored 38 points at Bowling Green, 20 points in the first half at Notre Dame, 28 points in the first half against Toledo, 3 in the first half and 10 total at Ball State. The BSU defense has been inconsistent but has proved to be formidable at times.

That's why I called them a bit schizophrenic.

BSU can play a real tough, good game -- and they could fold like a house of Card(inal)s. We have to prepare to see "the good" Ball State showing up.

I didn't get to see the game. I was driving through Minnesota and North Dakot. Did you get to see what you wanted to see because judging by the score it seems to come pretty darn close,

It appears that we prepared for the good Cardinals, but the bad Cardinals made the trip up from Muncie.

Yep. And we crushed them butt-good. I feel bad for BSU, actually.

Screw that. Any sympathy for BSU went out the window when Lembo fancied himself a creative writer in '13.

I think going for it on 4th down in the last two minutes was all about that letter.

A silly sarcastic recap of the game mocking RTB. Not worth digging up. I'm sure he regrets it now. 03-lmfao

After Lembo beat WMU in 2013 he wrote a letter to alum and friends. I saved the quote and savored the last two W's against Ball State.

Quote:Dear Alumni and Friends,

We defeated Western Michigan University yesterday at Waldo Stadium by a score of 38-17 in front of a modest crowd of 10,274. After battling the Broncos to a 3-3 tie in the first quarter, we were able to stem the tide in the second and third periods. WMU closed the gap to two scores early in the fourth quarter, but we were able to batten down the hatches and respond with two long scoring drives, which eventually put the game out of reach. We improved to 7-1 (4-0 MAC) with the win while the Broncos sank to 0-8 (0-4 MAC).

Sincerely,
Pete Lembo

Thanks for showing a copy of the letter. This conversation makes sense now.

All things considered, I didn't think the letter was that bad. Didn't seem mean spirited, although Lembo would have to be naive not to think it'd get out beyond BSU fans. The attendance snark was actually more noteworthy seeing as BSU's fan support is no better, probably worse.

Chuck Martin's MAC media day presser was more cutting, IMO.

These guys saw our bottom barrel 2013 team and figured we'd be the new EMU for a while, and probably assumed it was safe to publicly goof. Well... 03-nutkick

RE: Broncos 14.5 Point Favorites Over Ball State
Dear Bronco fans,

I am pleased to announce that Pete Lembo, a close friend and mentee of THE LEGENDARY Jim Schwartz, brought a seasoned group players into Waldo Stadium to face our young upstarts, and left with an ache in his midsection.

I am happy to report that in the first minute they were rithering in pain as Corey Davis gave them a quick shot to the groin. The three nutt crackers in the backfield castersted the Balls defense like an argry pig farmer.

The Bronco defense rendered Lembo offense impotent. WMU stiffened and didn't allow the opponents flaccid offense to penetrate the endzone.

Lembo and his crew left the stadium like a steaming pot of Rocky Mountain oysters. Soft, smelly, and completely cooked.

Tough going for Pete Lembo and Chuck Martin. A combined 1-4 against the Admiral. There is a lesson here.
