I don't see Troy doing enough to move the needle.

Give us another few weeks then we'll talk again...

So...after you guys take two or three more losses you want us to talk about your 2-8 team?

I know you looked good this weekend, but it was NMSU. App is slightly better than they are.

I hope what we are saying.....and no we are moving in the right direction without a doubt but not yet there......an upset of App St at Their house would be a great next step but it would be an upset.....We would have to play our best game throughout and have a few things go right.....is that get lucky a little not really preparedness meeting opportunity is not luck....but good fortune perhaps..........................All in all with App getting some votes and getting to 32 that is pretty good and we have been pretty bad as of late....the ideal set up to see an upset.....cause these are still kids and no matter what folks say in the games that look like on paper should not be a game some how it often is a game......Besides I like as do most a good competitive game....Even if we lose a tight ballgame there knowing that we can begin to play with the best in our league is a step in the right direction,....of course I am hoping for the upset and the beginning of a 7-5 record but I know that is a tall order....

I feel a little better about our Clemson loss after Clemson dominated Miami 58-0. It took Clemson 4 quarters to put up 41 points against us and put up 42 in first 2 quarters against Miami in their own house and even got their coach fired...Dang!!!

I don't think one more score would make any difference at all. In the end, it is more important to display some sportsmanship than to try and impress an AP voter or two. It's nice to get the attention but it really means very little at this point in the season. The last thing the team or coaching staff need to worry about is our standing in the polls. That's a sure fire way to find yourself on the wrong end of the scoreboard. I'd like to think we are more grounded than that.

Agreed, no need to worry about rankings. I know it's nice to get some national attention, but we've got to play to our fullest ability every week to avoid getting upset and any one of our remaining opponents is capable of doing just that. If we're fortunate enough to run the table a top 20 ranking will be there. Our coaches and players have to maintain laser focus just like Georgia Southern did last season.

-First App has to run table to 11-1, only loss to current #3 Clemson.

- Memphis has Tulane (W), Navy (W-L), Houston (W-L), Temple(W-L), and SMU(W) remaining. They have three games that are potential tossups, and both Houston and Temple are road games. I think they likely lose two.

- Houston has Vandy (W-L), Cincy (W-L), Memphis (W-L), UConn (W), and Navy (W-L) remaining. No gimme games for these guys either, they lose at least one maybe two.

-Temple has Notre Dame (L), SMU (W), USF(W), Memphis (W-L), and UConn (W) left. For sure one loss, but they get Memphis at home. If they lose one they shouldn't they are out.

The X factor here is Navy, they control their own destiny and are at 5-1. They play both ranked teams in Memphis and Houston, if they win out their only loss would be to #9 Notre Dame. They also could very well lose one or two they shouldn't but spoil Memphis or UH's seasons.

Will be an interesting back stretch.

You're forgetting Toledo who is 18th in the country right now, and has no real difficult games remaining.

I'm hoping Toledo loses to Western Michigan, I think its the last game of the year for each, makes GS's win over the Broncos look better and improves our SOS, which in turn makes Apps win over us look even better 04-cheers

couldn't have been happier that App took the knee, you don't try and score in that situation, the rivalry in intense enough, no need to create even more bad blood. Also, even though it would be unlikely, what happens if a player gets injured on the play, can you imagine what the reaction would be if Cox was injured and couldn't play for the next few games!! Man, the coaching staff would be hearing about that for a long time.

Nice to get some votes but for now just concentrate on an improving Troy team. They won big on Saturday and have played good defense in their Belt games.

Also at #34 now in the Colley Matrix, which is (FWIW) the only one I pay attention to of the former BCS computer systems, and the best for a number of reasons that I can elaborate on if anyone actually gives a crap.

I mention this to point out that the AP positioning isn't just a trick of a weak schedule. App is going to be recognized if they keep this up.

Apps schedule of two G5, one P5 and one FCS I think is the way to go. Two losses to elite P5's pretty much ends any hopes of being ranked because our bowls do not provide great opponents.

However you do it playing two AL types is not a wise move IMO.

To be honest that is the way all teams who get some hype should act.....are the kids (yes they are still young) going to ....the game will tell......Years ago Troy won on national TV against a ranked Missouri team and promptly went to NMSU and lost......crazy things can happen when a 19-23 y/0 starts thinking about the hype...

Hope to give you guys a good game.

I don't coach or play, so I'll leave the focusing on Troy to them.

It's a great blueprint that strikes a fair balance between budget and competition. It can also ensure that you have 6 home games a season as well. All G5s should follow it unless they don't have the budget to do so.

It's good that App St is doing this and the rest of the league should push for more of the same, but AState has been doing this for a few years as well. Mojahir has been doing the best job of success-oriented scheduling in the SBC.

It is nice to be in the others receiving votes category and hopefully we will crack the Top 25 this season. The first step we need to take is beat Troy, otherwise this talk is moot- one game at a time...

Provided we don't accidentally schedule the best G5 team in the country again...I agree with you.

Are you saying you are glad we lost?

All I was saying is that when Clemson beat us 41-10, I thought they were just slightly above average and not really a top 10 team. That they are a playoff contender now and beating descent teams worse than they beat us, makes our loss not look so bad.

Congrats, App.

CBS Sports like you as the #5 G5 team currently (ahead of Boise and Marshall, by the way). I watched the ODU game and was very impressed.
