It might be enough to slide us ahead of UGA.
USA today has us 13 spots behind the dawgs. (27/40)
Sagarin means less to me than these polls. I remember passing UGA on that scale in the past.
I think the Coach's poll moved UGA back to the top 25 this week.
So they are ranging from 25-29
We are ranging from 30-40.
The major point here is that we are narrowing the gap.
I think that even in this poll, if any of us get that close to our in state SEC program, we are going to be at least a little proud of it. And considering that this is so close to the edge of the top 25, it isn't a stretch to be excited about it.
App State is the biggest obstacle between us and entering Athens with a higher rank than uga.
We have to beat App State. It is what is best for the Conference, No?
"Help us, Help you"..
You realize, even if you enter the game "ranked higher" than Georgia, they'll still be at least -14 on you, right? Real rankings are pretty meaningless... CBS 128 rankings are REALLY meaningless in the grand scheme of things.
You do realize that believing you can win goes a long way towards winning right? You do realize that this game will be played by a bunch of basically kids who might take some belief away from such a poll that they have a chance at winning right? You do realize that regardless of how meaningless it is, if we are ranked in any poll higher than them.. it will be all over social media around this state right?
All polls are meaningless in the grand scheme of things. So is Football and what bowl games you go to I guess. But since this is a sports board and we are discussing rankings... well there you go.
Ranging from 30-40 in these polls is a pretty good indication of where you could wind up. If being in the top 25 means anything to you anyway.
Lot of season left. Lots of chances for 5 to 10 teams to drop in front of us.
You say it can't happen? Who cares? Reaching the top 25 in the USA Today poll can happen, and reaching the top 25 in the CBS Poll would be at least something. Jezzz...
This isn't the "trash your rival to prove how trash you are" thread. Please stick to the topic at hand.
Yea, I thought my page was open to that thread when I posted those two over here. I reposted them over there. And then I thought.... That's still funny and it's rivalry/Hate week for us so... I decided to leave them here for those who have no interest in reading the other thread. Too much trouble to delete

Georgia is also the home team. I'd like to see the odds if UGA was on the road in Statesboro.

Like the man said... the odds are "meaningless" = uga losses anyway!

Nope, they won't play us without their insurance.
I mean, I'd love to be wrong about this year!
Anyway, I'm hoping UF and Kentucky and Auburn all beat them before we get there and the SEC will have no reason to protect them. This is what happened when we played Florida. It was evident pretty early on that they were just going to let us play. Outside of one questionable late hit they called us for, they reffed a clean game.

Platitudes aside, outside of the top 25, the CBS 128 poll is pretty much random. This is really well known. You're talking about "closing the gap" as if that will have any impact on anything whatsoever. GS could be "ranked" higher than Georgia and they're still going to be odds on favorite to crush GS.
That's all I'm saying. Honestly, Sagarin is a better indicator as it actually has some sort of method behind it. The CBS poll is notorious for being shoddy past 25.

What "eves"
If stAte were #30 in that poll - you'd be happy about it.
Especially if the hawgs were #29.
Doesn't matter about its "shoddy" rep past 25. By that measure, it makes sense that the closer you get to 25, the better it might be.
Anyway, we'll use it on social media and milk that teet for any drops we can get.
Believing is a powerful tool. We aren't talking about a poll being accurate, we are talking about a tool of motivation. If you use it right, motivation CAN change the outcome of a game.
By the way, Nice Win last night.

No. I should have elaborated. If you are unable to shut down our run game, Georgia may be the team to run for 300 yards in your match-up. I doubt shutting us down would do much to show how the UGA game will go.

You bet he would, because it is good publicity, and that is why schools invest money to play football at this level. Lots of schools are paying a lot more and getting a lot less.

We held Western Michigan to 25 yards. They ran for 430 yards against a very good Ohio team that beat Marshall. I like our chances to slow App down.

I think what he means is that if App can run, UGA will run all over us.
And if App can't run, clearly there was some sort of execution problem that has nothing to do with GS's defense being able to stop the run.
