RE: Game Week Toledo
I don't disagree that the offense has made some mistakes and at times Roback specifically has made bad decisions, but I've been around EMU football for a long time, and I haven't seen a quarterback with this much promise except maybe Andy Schmitt, and Roback is a better athlete. Roback's decisions outside of the pocket (throwing off balance, throwing into double/triple coverage), are frustrating, but most important they are correctable. His arm strength, ability to make second, third, fourth reads is impressive. Look at the Akron game, he completed passes to 8 different receivers, I guarantee each of those guys weren't the first option on many of those plays. On the contrary, many of them were a result of Roback working through his progressions. Roback, Vann, Banham, Daughtery, Tuttle, Browning etc... There is a bright future for this offense if they are allowed to develop properly. Don't forget Breck Turner is redshirting, he is one of the most promising young running backs to enroll at EMU in a long time. For a long time my hope for EMU football was based on the chance that they got lucky, now they are building something, especially on offense, watch Cole Gardner, the kid is doing a great job at left tackle, he's back next year. The offensive line has been good this year. I'm excited for next season, that is as long as the defense can improve. If not I see another dismal season, except EMU will be losing 56 to 48 rather than 56 to 28. As far as Bell, they can name him the starter again if they chose, but I guarantee he doesn't make it more than 3 games in a season without a serious injury, he isn't built to take the hits a division 1 quarterback takes.
