Tarpey, Prewitt, Dixon earn Pre-Season Honors
Some national attention for those three guys today. Here is the Tribeathletics notice on the story.
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - With a month before the first game of the 2015-16 college basketball season, a trio of William & Mary men’s basketball players earned preseason accolades from the Web site College Sports Madness. Senior Terry Tarpey was named both a preseason First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association selection and a Fourth-Team selection to the national All-High Major.
Juniors Omar Prewitt and Daniel Dixon garnered preseason All-CAA selections on the second and fourth teams, respectively, from College Sports Madness, giving W&M a trio of all-league picks.
W&M was among a trio of CAA teams to place three players in the CAA top 20 according to College Sports Madness. W&M, James Madison and Delaware all had a trio of picks. The national All-High Major team included players from the Atlantic-10, CAA, C-USA, Horizon League, Mid-American, Missouri Valley, Mountain West and West Coast Conferences, meaning Tarpey is one of the top 20 players in the top mid-major conferences nationally. He was one of two CAA players on the four teams, joined by Hofstra’s Juan’ya Green, who was a third-team pick. For comparison, 2015 graduate Marcus Thornton was a preseason second team pick a season ago.
Tarpey was the 2015 CAA Defensive Player of the Year along with being a Second-Team All-CAA and NABC All-District pick. He averaged 11.8 points and a CAA-best 8.4 rebounds per game to go along with 1.8 steals, 1.3 blocked shots and 3.2 assists per game, all team bests. Prewitt, a Third-Team All-CAA selection as a sophomore, ranked second on the team at 13.5 points per game and earned All-Tournament honors at the CAA Championships in 2015 after scoring a career-high 33 points in the semifinals vs. Hofstra. Dixon chipped in 11.1 points per game last season and ranked fifth nationally at 45.1 percent from 3-point range, hitting 73 triples on the year.
The Tribe returns four starters and 10 letterwinners from last season’s CAA regular season championship squad. W&M won 20 games for the second straight campaign in 2015 and competed in the National Invitation Tournament (NIT) for the second time in six seasons. The Green and Gold opens the 2015-16 campaign at 2015 NCAA Sweet 16 participant N.C. State on Friday, Nov. 13. The game is slated for an 8 p.m. tip and will be broadcast on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.
Congrats to those guys!
