I have seen GS struggle several times for short stretches of games this year. If they had a stretch like they had in the ULM game against a good team, they'd likely lose that game.

The Question is, outside of App, is there a game on the eagles schedule where someone can take advantage of that? Maybe South Alabama?

I think it would have to be a road game and we have two left, App and Troy. ULM's defense matched well with us and the injuries we had at the time.

No doubt. I had this conversation with ericsaid and it seems that our defense is very emotionally driven and gets pretty comfortable when we get a sizeable lead, leading to a lot of "garbage time" points.

When the opposing team is within 2 scores we've only given up 16 points.
When we are up by 2 scores or more we've given up 65 points.

So it appears those "hiccups" might be very heavily influenced by the size lead that we have. We appear to be very talented, but lack a killer instinct like App's defense when the game is "out of reach."

Last I heard, the MAC was their fall back conference.

But, we all know how those "secondary" agreements work. If they need a team, it's wheel and deal time.

I would love to see GS totally shut down opponents, but I think it's a lot easier to lose interest in the defensive side during a rout.

That said, I'm sticking by my preseason prediction that the defense is what will get us to 10-2. Sooner or later, the offense will have an off game or turn it over too many times. This season, I think the Eagle defense is good enough to put the offense on its shoulders and keep them from losing a game where the points and big plays aren't there.

They've confirmed the Sun Belt is the backup bid for this year.

We need one of USA, ULM, TxSt, or Troy to get to 6 wins and hope CUSA doesn't get their 7 to fill the Arizona Bowl.

This is Texas State we're talking about, we're still not going to a bowl even if we get eligible. Its basically a tradition like Wazzou flying their flag because they never host gameday.

I know we had a bad couple of minutes against stAte (and they were epically bad), but 32 % to beat Idaho, @ Georgia State and one of @Texas State, ULL, @ Georgia Southern, and App?

Sounds a bit low.

Texas State as a road game is hurting you. Most don't believe you'll beat the other 3. Essentially they give you a 60 percent chance of losing in San Marcos.

Road sweet Road for the Jags

I just want to go to Orlando. Definitely don't want New Orleans so I hope ULL gets bowl eligible.

But...but...but...I want to go to Orlando. Mostly because that game has a good chance of getting a P5 opponent. Personally, I don't care to see a game against a MAC school and there are only a couple of C-USA schools I care to see. Would be nice to get a P5 school at a neutral site.

I wanted to go see one game last year and I chose the South Alabama game. Bridges looked like the best opposing passing quarterback I had ever seen play in Boone that night.

Complete disappointment. That really does tie into me believing USA is better than they actually are. Its difficult to say though. Are they the team that beat SDSU, or the team that gave up 29 points in about 7 minutes of game time?

USA is both of those teams. I have no idea what to expect from game to game with this crew.

I disagree. For a team that lost 16 starters and who don't have much of a running game...they're doing fantastic.

Even after the collapse against stAte, I still like this USA team better than last years.

They aren't better, but they seem to try harder.

We will be in every remaining game we have this year in the second half. I don't think this team is scared of going to Statesboro or hosting ULL or App. I don't think they'll win all those games. But I think we will be competitive in all of them.

The stAte game was going to be a 'one to try to steal' game anyway. We've got another on next in San Marvelous.

---

And for some odd reason, I think we're going to make a bowl this year...I thought 3 wins was our baseline... We've already got that.

For me the biggest good surprise team in the SBC is USA. I thought they'd be pretty good by the back half of the season with the transfers, but they are one of the top 5 teams in the conference, I didn't expect that.

What did we learn this week? Bowl picture starting to become clearer?

New Mexico, ULM and Troy eliminated today?
Idaho and Georgia State still hanging by a thread?
South Alabama, Louisiana Lafayette and Arkansas State battling for the 3rd and possible at large bowl?
Appalachian State bowl bound?
Georgia Southern lock for a bowl.
