Nothing before or since makes near the visual statement.

It's not offensive and someone needs to call them out on it, bring the damn thing back.

The fight was to be made when we still had it. Now that it's gone, it ain't coming back. I'm actually amazed that in the current atmosphere of PC overreacting that we've held on to Tribe.

You fight back. I bet the individual or group at the NCAA had no knowledge of the College's history and background with the local tribes here. Neither I bet did the fat dunce we had sitting in the throne at the time.

FSU still proceeds with a full blown characture (with local Native American support I think) and the W&M approach was a simple noble gesture, still supported by the local tribes here.

Several years ago there was a group petioning the State of NY to have the town of Fishkill change its name, being offensive and signaling cruelty to animals. Amazing how far it went before someone explained to them the name Fishkill was a Dutch name meaning fish town.

I agree with you. I also believe, from a political standpoint, the powers that be don't want to go anywhere near it. There is a vocal minority more than willing to fight because they are offended for someone else.

You will be pleased to learn that W&M has officially changed the Virginia License plate that honors the College. From this day fourth, the W&M Seal [that is on the upper left corner of the license plate] will be replace by............"the squiggly cypher mess of a logo".

I always liked the School Seal because it was colorful and distinctive. No word on whether current owners of W&M Plates will have to turn in their old plates for plates with the new & approved design/logo. An article on the new plates was carried in the VA Gazette last week.

That is a shame. I don't mind the cypher but the seal is my absolute favorite symbol associated with the College

RE: Helmet decal.
We had two feathers which "linked" to Indians.

The feathers were removed because of the "link" to Indians.

The Tribe was approved because it was not "linked" to Indians.

We now have a mascot which we didn't have when this came down.

We could have two feathers, or a feather and a lion's tail, which would be "linked" to our new mascot.

I don't get why this argument isn't made, and the feathers return. It's simple, and can't be refuted.

Would make a great petition issue, don't you think?

I guess those who are "offended" by the feathers have forgotten that an early mission of the College was to educate Indians?

5 year process:
Start with this image but make more feathery.
Slowly transition "Tribe" script to "William & Mary Tribe".
Then block "W&M Tribe"
then just
"WM"
and tada!

RE: Helmet decal.
I saw a black SUV leaving Villanova Saturday with feather magnets all over it. It looked pretty cool.

That was Tribe4SF, no doubt about it. You should've chased him down and shared a few celebratory drinks with him.

I don't see why you'd have to turn in a plate. Renewing registration just requires putting the new year sticker on.

I totally agree with you. I was always told that one of the major reasons we picked the griffin was for the feathers too. It's odd that they've made no headway on it.

the 1693 on the front of the helmets is tight. it isn't meant for marketing, it's meant for the players. that's all that matters. and it works!!!
