You are only seeing the gast crowd since joining the sunbelt. You did not get to experience the gast crowd from pre 2012. Getting their a$$ handed to them for the past 5 years has created some humility. When they announced they were restarting football the contempt for GS and conceit and arrogance was insufferable. They all came to our site (gsufans.com) to announce their domination of the state. We got to hear things like the following:

GS and FCS sucks. We will own FBS. We will join the C-USA (this is when that conference was good). GS will be our homecoming game. Bill Curry, cover of ESPN, etc....all on our fan site.

Kennessaw, Mercer, no other upstart came to our site to tell us we suck and they are awesome. only gast. The quotes are saved from saintdk and panama and others.

Sadly, our conference mates only know gast as the pathetic little football team that draws 5,000 for homecoming. Before they were a dumpster fire, they treated everyone else with conceit and arrogance. You will be hard pressed to find any GS fan say anything negative about Kennessaw or Mercer - who did not bust on the scene saying "look at me, I'm awesome". The Dome, President's salary, ATL, Academic smack, etc. I will guarantee you this, if they ever get decent at football you will experience first hand the contempt for your program. Gast thinks they are better than everyone in this conference - not just GS. If you dont believe me check panthertalk. Too bad you all didnt have the opportunity to experience what we did in 2010 and 2011. So now the chickens have come home to roost and they must lay in the bed they made. I hope their football program is gone in five years. They have the makings of a decent basketball program and this is where they should invest.

BY THE WAY THIS IS NOT ALL GAST FANS. I DONT WANT TO PAINT THEM WITH THE BROAD BRUSH THAT THEY PAINT US. SOME ARE REASONABLE, LIKE STAN. Others are like panama and saintdk (who has been conspicuously absent for the last few years)

You sped up our time table by a year.

We weren't planning on adding a 57,00 sqft football center and adding 6k in seats to stay in the SoCon.

Those plans were several years in the making before state made their announcement, just not public.

So, a thread that was started about the Liberty/GaSt game, that had 30+ pages or pre and post game comments, has for the past several days, has 10+ pages of GaSt/GaSo bickering and conference member bashing. What's the benefit to everyone involved other than some subtle ego gratification?

It's really only a rivalry among the internet crowd. If you talk to a typical GS fan they will call App a rival and not State. Just because State lives rent free in the heads of a lot of our fans doesn't mean that it's a rivalry.
