Hi: 72°
Cloudy. Rain likely...Mainly in the afternoon. Breezy with highs in the mid 70s. Northeast winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Chance of rain 60 percent.

Crap, and we just bought a new double wide canopy, may wait to break that out.

You are such a wuss. Tie it down and turn on the wide screen.

Well we have had a river flowing through in the past...plus I wouldn't deny you the entertainment of me being electrocuted.

This will be my tailgate, get to lot, wife and friends immediately go off socializing, I am stuck putting everything together. People start coming by asking for scores while I am still obviously connecting everything...make myself a drink, then someone asks question forget about drink.

2 hours pass, finally have everything together, wife shows up with friends, wants to know why wine isn't open yet.

More "friends" show up, bring 2 cookies on plate, ask me if they can have beer.

Friends then ask if I have extra tix, I now cannot fidn the 3rd drink I have made (have yet to take one sip of any)

Scrounge around get everyone tickets..game starts lot empties, finally make drink, settle into chair and have peace.

Halftime comes and everyone passing by asks scores of various games, "friends" who brought 2 cookies ask for more beer.

Second half starts, lot empties out. Settle back in chair watch various games, enjoy a few whiskeys and the quiet.

Game ends, half fans come back all PO because Tribe "only" won by 10, then ask why Laycock is still coach. Laycock shows up, same fans spend 30 minutes kiss his azz.

Driving home after taking 2 hrs to pack up by myself, wife asks "How come you never go into the games?"

Sorry I characterized you inaccurately earlier. I meant to say you're a whiney wuss.

I hope the forecast changes, I'd love to see a packed house for this game but if it's rainy, cold, and windy peoople aren't gonna show up as much.

The Stony Brook message board is pretty interesting right now. Cliffs notes version: argument over how to play O-line, and helpings of kool aid bigger than I've ever seen anywhere on how amazing their team is. I get that they have a great defense and have a great running back (he did transfer from UMass...so although he's an FBS transfer let's not get TOO excited). I think it'll be a great game, but I hope our offense keeps the upward trajectory they're on.

The only thing I know about Stony Brook, is that there is a Nuclear Power Plant there.

RE: Stony Brook
The weather has to favor Stony Brook. If it's wet and windy we could be in for some real trouble. The one area where we really have an advantage over SB is in the passing game and that could completely neutralized if the weather is bad. I don't want get into a ground and pound battle with Bedell and Co.

I'm confident our QB will still throw well in the wind & rain whereas I think poor weather all but eliminates their one threat at WR. I'd be more concerned if they had a stud TE.

MAS & Anderson, at 200+ lbs are more than ready to pound the ball.

I didn't think about it that way. If the weather makes their offense one dimensional we can stack the box and really sell out against the run. Whereas we can use our speed (especially Dedmon) to get to the outside to prevent them from doing the same to us.

RE: Stony Brook
Looking at the tickets available, it should be a pretty good crowd. Hard to get a real sense as you can't see the exact number of how many seats are left in each section anymore (so no way to get a sense for the GA sections), but aside from the new "Touchdown Zone" in Section II, all the other sections are almost all full. Hoping the weather cooperates for the fans. I think this will be a great game and a real show of the Tribe offense.

If it's windy that could cause problems with Cluley's deep ball accuracy. His underneath accuracy through two games has been better.

If W&M could pound the rock against UVA they should be able to do that against Stony Brook.

RE: Stony Brook
While I lament that we do not get to start our conference schedule with Albany at home, we will need to just play very well in all facets of the game. While we might make excuses about the weather, the team won't. Stony Brook is going to be very tough as they were last year. If we can limit turnovers, Windmuller will be a real field position weapon. We will certainly try to run it against everyone this year regardless of the weather. If we can get the lead, bad weather then really hurts Stony Brook. Hopefully, the team will come out fired up for the first home game this season and play very hard from the outset. Falling behind would not be good in a driving rainstorm. Remember the Rhode Island a few years ago. We did not play well, but we led throughout and by the 4th quarter, neither team did much in the monsoon that night. It was 20-0 Tribe.

Yes, I recall that game. The scary part is that SB is no Rhode Island.

Checking out AccuWeather.com the rain will be intermittent and will not be a big down pour estimated. 02 of an inch at 6 pm. but nothing afterwards.
Hopefully this will be true.

In the future it will interesting to see how the new West side stands will change how the wind effects the passing game.

Looking at the Nova game going on now and UNH's terrible form of late, this could be the second hardest game of the season. I'm excited and hope the fans turn out no matter the weather.

Hoping the weather is not too bad. Nice to finally have a home game. Then it is off on the road again for two weeks.

RE: Stony Brook
Apparent weak spot for SB is their lack of any depth on the o-line....They lose anybody on that frontline and the deck changes.

Plus some predictions in the article. Haley picks us, but also picks JMU to beat SMU.

RE: Stony Brook
This WM squad is very, very good this year. The QB leadership, the maturity of the OL, and two powerful downhill rushers is a ball control nightmare for any defense. Our WR's, as a group, are very strong. Defensively, our DL is gaining experience and depth each game. Our LB's now lack experience, but still have the SR guiding the way and are very capable. Our DB's with the exception of a few plays are doing well.

Our special teams are solid. There is no doubt a benefit to having a strong punter that can kick it out of the stadium. My only request is that it gets more directional (picking a side of the field). While kicking it 50 -60 yards is cool, really cool, but unless it goes over the returners head and is not returnable, it gives the return man 15-20 yards to get up to speed, see lanes and puts or coverage team at a disadvantage.

I look for ball control offense, taking a shot down the field at the right moments. Our defense will keep them out of the endzone most of the night. 24-13 Tribe.

RE: Stony Brook
I would take that result. I think we will learn a lot about the team in the next 3 weeks. Tomorrow's game is a big test and then we hit the road for 2 more weeks at places where we have traditionally struggled. If the Tribe can come through the next 3 weeks, we will be set up for some big games at home in October. I cannot say enough about how much I enjoyed the effort and the play calling at UVA. Hopefully, we will have a raucous crowd tomorrow night to support the Tribe for the home opener. Winning the turnover battle is a key all year, but especially in the tough conditions tomorrow. GO TRIBE!

As for the Haley prediction of a JMU victory, if they do win, look out. SMU was in the game against TCU until well into the 4th quarter.

I'm thinking (hoping) this will be the toughest of those 3 games. Delaware and Villanova lost to Jacksonville and Penn respectively. If we beat Stony Brook tomorrow there's no way we shouldn't win up north.
