RE: Stony Brook
I did notice that SBU is averaging over 100 yards in penalties per game. Not a very disciplined squad. Not that we can count on them self-destructing.

Also missed yesterday that Matt Ahola has leap-frogged over Roscoe at DE following UVA game. Ahola has shown very well the first two games with a couple memorable TFLs. He's similar to Gryder with good size/strength and high motor.

This is the toughest remaining game on our schedule imo.

I think these are the 2 best teams in the CAA. I know it's early but ... I think the winner of this game will win the CAA.

Wow that's a bold statement. I wouldn't count out Vad Lee and JMU just yet. Or even a Robertson-less Villanova squad.

Yeah, that's a bit bold IMO. I'd only go so far to say two of the best teams in the CAA will play at Zable on Saturday. Others in the top tier appear to be Villanova, JMU, and maybe Richmond. Besides Elon and URI, its any given Saturday, or business as usual, in the CAA.

Schedule is brutal. Need to hold serve at home.

On a slightly off-topic note, i'm rewatching the UVa game and noticed that Battle was dressed for the game and Mosley does not appear to be. SF can correct me if i'm wrong.

Nice write-up on Tyler Claytor in the RTD:
http://www.richmond.com/sports/article_3...75a7d.html

Including maybe a little extra mojo for Mikal on Saturday night.
UNH coach Sean McDonnell said Bedell might be the CAA's best tailback, and added, “He made a bunch of different runs with great vision. He broke tackles. He turned a couple of five-, six-yard gains into 15-, 20-yard gains.”

I'd have that quote taped up in his locker all week. I hope he comes out angry on Saturday

Our game is one of the two finalists for game of the week over on AGS. The other is Liberty at SIU, right now we're ahead 30-16; everyone go vote.

RE: Stony Brook
Finally got a chance to put in the numbers from the UVA game.

Against UVA, Standard Downs: 12-18, 160 yards, 2 TD, 2 sacks, 5 1st downs
Against UVA, Passing Downs: 11-21, 66 yards, 1 TD, 1 sack, 1 1 1st down

They picked up 3 1st downs via penalty that don't factor in. Still, the numbers when Cluley had to throw had a lot of empty calorie plays where they got very little yardage. Cluley's success came when he was able to throw on early downs.

For the season, Standard Downs: 25-38, 290 yards, 65.8% completion, 7.63 YPA, 2 TDs, 3 sacks, 9 1st downs
For the season, Passing Downs: 18-33, 54.5% completion, 6.82 YPA, 3 TD, 1 INT, 5 sacks, 4 1st downs

2014 Standard Downs: 111/175, 63.4% completion, 8.21 YPA, 9 TDs, 3 INTs, 12 sacks, 61 1st downs
2014 Passing Downs: 53/147, 36.1% completion, 4.16 YPA, 2 TD, 1 INT, 20 sacks, 21 1st downs

So Cluley's % completion rate on standard downs is up +2.4 and on passing downs is up +18.4. It would appear that he is adjusting better on passing downs and that is where most of the improvement is would it not?

That's correct. On standard downs he's got a slightly lower but still strong YPA while completing a few more passes. He's still not great in obvious passing spots but a) that's normal for most QBs and b) as long as he's respectable there that's all the offense needs from him as things are presently constructed. His ability to hit deep balls should show up as the season goes along on passing downs when teams blitz him and he's able to beat the blitz. We saw some of that against Lafayette. Cluley was dreadful last year against VT in all phases. Completely different this year against UVA, and not all of it is because of the opponent.

Also I made an error in copying from my chart earlier- only 2 sacks in passing downs. The sack rate overall is 1 every ~14 dropbacks; last year it was 1 every ~8 dropbacks.

With the possible rainy and windy forecast it could be a tough night at Zable. If wind is really 20-25 mph will be difficult to pass with wet ball.

Hi: 72°
Cloudy. Rain likely...Mainly in the afternoon. Breezy with highs in the mid 70s. Northeast winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Chance of rain 60 percent.

I think you can expect a decent showing from SBU fans. Doesn't appear they returned any tickets, at least from Section A. You won't have any problem finding them. Their version of red is about as electric that you will find.

Overall, a pretty loyal following, probably best in the CAA north of Delaware.

If the O-line stays healthy, I would expect the sacks/drop to start going down after Saturday.

Clearly, Stony Brook is on the rise. Not sure how the weather will impact us, but clearly they want to run it and not have to throw it.
