Griffin
Our Griffin is now 5 years old, which in mythical animal years, I believe is a mature 35. I think this bye week is a good time to reflect on the mascot and he/she/its anniversary.

First, we were promised a naming contest at "a later date." This has yet to come to fruition.

Second, I believe it is high-time that the college look into a more menacing variation of said beast on various merchandise items/sculpture etc, since the cartoonish drawing one is really just for kids. I am very happy with the physical costume, but I think the artistic renditions could be expanded.

From W&M webpage FAQs About the Griffin
"What will the Griffin's name be?
We haven't selected a name for our Griffin yet. We plan to conduct a naming contest at a later date."

RE: Griffin
I know the Alumni House used to sell a tie with a griffin on it. It didn't look "menacing" but at least it didn't look dumb. I wouldn't mind seeing that.

RE: Griffin
He already has a first name, but the Athletic Department hasn't wanted to publicize it for some reason. I don't know why -- I think "Ebirt" is a nice name.

Name your next child "Ebirt."

What about 'Griff'? It's catchy; like the Griffin.

I've been calling him Griff since he arrived. He always answers to it. So that's settled.
