That's like saying UNC Charlotte has the best W/L record in the FBS.
I think we are 182-33. So don't act like we are bragging about 1 season. No, it's not 70 years of football. But 30+ years with that record isn't anything to take lightly.

That 182 includes the two longest home winning streaks in FCS history and the longest home playoff winning streak in FCS history, so yes, it is a tough place to win.

On the positive side, it's at Paulson, home opener, hot sun and humidity, DL and LB are playing well.
True GUT check for Southern. Crowd should bring some life to the offense and special teams! Hail Southern
Wonder if there will be a crowd .... ???
I've got a half marathon to run that day, if I'm still breathing after that I may make the hour drive to Statesboro.
1) It's opening day, there will be at least 20,000.
2) Good luck on your race! Mine is in November.
You were right crowdwise. I finished my half in 2:57-something. Old man running. Are you running the rock and roll?

No, though I did run the R&R a few years ago. I'm running a smaller one with some friends in Orlando (not Disney).

I am going to run another one. Maybe RR, but not sure I can handle the crowds.
Sorry, back on topic.
Anyone who saw the game -- was it as lopsided as the score? I say that because Southern was in WV game first half, but the wheels fell off and the axle dropped out and all that crap in the second. I'm just curious.

We took it to them the entire game.
I was honestly surprised by how slow they looked compared to us. We did some things early to feel them out but once we started rolling the only thing that stopped us was our failure to execute on some plays.
They had a good drive to start the game, but it took half the quarter and only got them 3 points. They scored before the half on a drive where we played soft and let them pass underneath....contained big plays and let the clock run. They only scored one more time after that.
I think they were at somewhere around 3.9 ypp which is not good....defense did a great job especially Glover who hauled in 3 INT's. The kick coverage was amazing as well....they had <20 yards on returns after getting 176 last week with one of them being a 100 yarder for a TD.
I've been saying it all week, WVU was prepared for us and they have a fantastic defense to match up against our offense. They made us look much worse than we really are.

Pretty much. We dominated in almost all facets of the game. We took most of the decision making responsibilities away from Upshaw (didn't make him pitch or throw a lot) and it made a world of difference.
Defensively, WMU has a good running back in Jarvion Franklin but they've only averaged 25 yards a game on the ground their first two games. We had good presence upfront to stop their run game; however, we didn't do a great job with our pass rush until we brought in extra help.
The secondary looked good considering their QB had all day to throw on most downs. We really only got beat deep once but the WR couldn't haul in the catch.
Special Teams is where things got ugly for WMU. Their kick returner last week had two returns of over 70 yards (1 for a TD) and I think it went to his head. He brought every kick he could out of the endzone the first half and none of them crossed the 15 yard line. We won the field position battle almost all game.

Good info to hear... I had to follow along gamecast and the first drive had me REALLY nervous.
I think our D is really going to be improved.

Well that went better than expected. Would like to see more of a pass rush. I think Breida actually failed to outrun the entire defense once...unacceptable.

On his long TD run, the corner took a great angle to intercept Breida but he wasn't fast enough. He came the closest I've seen to someone running him down on one of those runs.
Props for the effort.

Yet to see anyone get even close to catching Breida. Even with an angle.

Their #6 was pretty fast. Breida barely beat him to the end zone. Under normal circumstances Wesley Fields probably would have scored after breaking free that 1st time but #6 ran him down in a hurry.

Breida saw him the whole time. I wouldn't be surprised if he was holding back a little to outrun him if he closed any more.

On the 70-yarder, you can see Breida throw up a leg kick just as he gets through the hole. It was like he dropped the thing into sixth gear and just took off.
