The OL was not THAT bad. WVU knew what was coming. We have almost totally gone away from the triple option. The defense knew Upshaw was weak on the pitch, especially to his left, and has zero arm strength and accuracy. We were playing with one bullet in the chamber(the dive). Upshaw was afraid to get hit, and missed read after read. The pull was there virtually all night.

Upshaw is not who we need at qb. He may have straight line speed, but can't cut or take a hit without falling down. WVU defense was our worst nightmare, especially we Ellison out. Really wanted to see Vegas worked into the 3 or 4th series. Looks like Fritz is dead set on keeping Upshaw at qb, but feel he needs to be moved somewhere else. He is just too scared of being hit.

Vegas would not have done much better. There is a reason he is third string and was moved to safety.

Bottom line is that Ellison is a special player and we saw the huge drop off from him to Upshaw.

Fritz wants to move us away from the heavy run option that we saw last year and he thought Upshaw was a viable QB to do this but clearly that is not the case. We just don't have the receivers or QB at this point to change the offense.

Eagles, I feel for you. I was secretly hoping for a better game because, while I am a WVU fan, of sorts, for family reasons, I ALWAYS root for a G5 team to play well and beat the Mountaineers. Unfortunately, it has never happened, and thought this might be the year. WVU is always fast and talented, and while they can be beaten, it takes a nearly flawless effort to do so. Their home field crowd is raucous and at times, borders on the ridiculous, but they are an undeniable help to the Mounties at home. It's very, very tough to go into Morgantown and beat them. (Plus didn't you lose your starting QB right before the season started...that didn't help I'm sure.)

I have no doubt that Georgia Southern will be in the thick of things during the SBC season, however. Because of our past association, I will always pull for the Eagles and Appalachian State in the Sun Belt.

One last point is that I hope fritz/tk have tightened up the academic oversight part of the program. That one major mistake hurt their short term big time job prospects badly.

Just a good old fashioned butt whippin by a more talented team. I actually agree with skins assessment of the QB which tells me it must be obvious to anyone, but I don't know that Ellison would've made that much difference. Our offensive tackles are very green and the LB penetration proved it.

Fritz hasn't experienced the judgment of Paulson, but if the offense doesn't get going in a hurry Saturday, the boos will come quickly. Harley better be ready to go.

Finally, I hope all the smack-talkers go back over to the WV board and revisit threads on here to eat the humble pie. I also hope this the end of referencing losses to Ga Tech and NC State as "success" against P5. Let's reference Navy and West Virginia when we think about OOC games.

+1. I do think we will get better every week.

Hard to do anything with the penetration the defense had. We got zero push all game and they disrupted all phases of our run game. Hell, most of the time there was no deep safety and they were within 5 yards of the LoS. Oh yea their secondary could play on islands too. We lived and died with our OL play.

The disaster was a team effort on offense to be sure, but Upshaw was very much a part of it. He made too many throws that didn't need to be made, he's not effective running on the perimeter, and he doesn't handle the pressure as well as Kevin Ellison.

He is just not a starter right now, now ifs, ands, or buts.

Well after cooling off still no way to polish that turd. I pretty much had it pegged it preseason, D would be better and the o line would be our demise. Also, sdd losing our by far best QB and it was over before it started. Outside of no blocking the QB play was the worst I have ever seen outside of the VanDouchebag era. The score in now way indicates how well our D Line and most of the secondary played, they picked on one corner pretty bad. You can only do so much being on the field the entire game. We have even two long drive scores and that game is still probably lost but at least in the respectable area.
I knew the growing pains were coming and we would not be close consistent until year three most likely four and a lot of folks just did not want to hear it.

On a side note GaSt really needs to reign in that Ben Moore guy on twitter he is doing yall no favors. Your team just got beat by a transitional FCS team, you still have no FBS wins and will likely not get any this year, probably will get smoked by Liberty and you still talk crap. Wow.....the guy has no shame or sense of reality.
