We won't learn much from next week's game against Prairie View A&M, either. The season basically starts against Southern Mississippi. The five game stretch of games starting with USM and ending with Georgia Southern is the critical stretch of games for us this year.

The only part I disagree with is what we learned in the game.

We learned our punting game is in good hands. Our kicking game is suspect.

And Tim Gay doesn't need to be playing LB just yet.

Yes, he did a good job yesterday. A guy we really don't want to see had a very good game. We got to see a lot of him yesterday because the offense was ineffective. We got to see the Swiss cheese defense waste the great field position he left them. He even ran for a first down to keep a drive going. But when a punter is the best thing that happened, then I think we got nothing out of the game.

Then you're only trying to see the negative.

Whether anyone wants to admit it or not, the punter is a huge part of the game. We know we have a good one now, and one that has a cannon for a leg, and one that can put some English on the ball to make life difficult on the returners.

In a game where it was just a payday game... I'll take all the positives I can get .

I wasn't overly impressed with the stadium or atmosphere of the game. Some beautiful areas on campus, though. I sat with a very nice, and quite respectably sized, group of Texas State fans. Hope to make it out to San Marcos one day.

Hope that you get the chance. Of San Marcos, The Queen of England once said: "It's the most beautiful place I've ever laid eyes on."

Well, maybe that wasn't her exact words . . . . But it's probably close . . . .
