That's crazy. They haven't been around long enough for anyone to consider it career suicide.

What I'm wondering is (and I don't say this to be a dick) what is the problem? Is the AD not supporting the program so the coach struggles? Just bad hires? Difficulty in getting consistent decent players?

The team doesn't appear to have the OVERALL talent (individual spots have good talent though) to compete, which says the coach is recruiting poorly... Just the question would be why.

facilities and infrastructure just aren't there. nobody knows where they will be playing their home games a few years from now. they have had a division one team for a few years and are just now getting a serious weightroom for the players. top tier coaching prospects won't go near that place until some of these things get fixed and figured out.

You're second sentence says it all. People act like we have been at this 40 years. We have completed 5 seasons. Less than 60 games. We have had 2 coaches. We started FCS football in 2009 but we should have done what UTSA did and declare we were going FBS straight away. We would have recruited FBS players from day one and built facilities accordingly. Instead we played the FCS game and when the FBS movement occurred we had to turn an aircraft carrier around. We announced in April 2012. Curry announced his retirement in Aug 2012. We hired Miles? Dec 2012 and signed our first FBS class such that it was in Feb 2013. That was roughly 30 months ago. Charlie Cobb has been in the job 1 year now and has been focused on cleaning house of the Levick administration and now he has football and the Ted to worry about. So now he is faced with HIS first major decision at GSU. How this plays out with Miles and the Ted property will all on him.

I think the right coach with local ties can get into Atlanta high schools and get the talent. We have seen recently Houston, USF, Temple and SMU coaches with local ties mine their immediate area and get talent to stay home. I think it can happen for us. I haven't seen where this staff can do that.

You've gotta have something longer term to sell to recruits for stability though.

If in year 3 you win 6 then you get a year 4 and 5. But I am not making it up that fanbases aren't waiting 5 years

What school other than UAB has hired a coach for a deal less than 4 years?

Calm down.

There are only 4 football only weight rooms the SBC. We have an athletics weight room. We decided to build a fb specific one at the practice complex so players would not have to trek back to the sports arena. The only reason it took so long was because of the Ted property and it's final disposition. As for we don't know where we will play. Look, we will be playing in 2018 at the Falcons stadium or the Ted. We are not homeless. LOL. Money talks. If the Foundation, Becker and Cobb decide to be the program they privately say they want to be that will determine a salary price point and candidates will flow from there. This job is no worse than what Fuente inherited at Memphis.

For whoever the next coach is, Georgia State fans are not asking for much. A glimmer of hope. 2-3 wins. Someone can get this done.

You can't deny that facilities aren't a HUGE issue though, right?

Somebody like G.A. Mangus might be interesting. I think Matt Moore at Troy will make a fine head coach somewhere as well.

Curry and Miles have had terrible recruiting. Miles went all in on transfers this year in hopes of saving his career. Those transfers will be gone, and the new coach is left with nothing. No smart coach will touch that job without 4 years.

Miles went all in on transfers to make up for the imbalances in recruiting Curry had. The imbalances left us with zero depth and 18 year olds starting last season.

Being a head coach gets you more incentives and perks on top of base pay. Also, being a head coach > being an assistant coach.

We need to follow the blueprint and hire the hungriest SEC West Coordinator. Pay him a million then hope he turns it around so we can afford to pay him....I call it the StAte strategy

The writing was on the wall. Miles knows how it works. He wins this year or he's gone. If he were concerned about imbalances, why did he just make it worse?

That's why I say a new coach needs four years. He's going to have to clean up Miles poor recruiting.

Yup yup. More than that, if (for example) Cristobal has aspirations of being a HC in P5, he needs to get some HC experience.

If he were to come to Georgia State, and produce 3-4 years in a row of 9-10 win seasons, he could be in line for his HC P5 job.

Curry was recruitng for FCS. His recruiting was not bad for FCS . His coaching hires were. Miles' FBS recruiting has been horrible.
