Exclamation Georgia State: Scholarship Numbers
GSU Fans,

I only a small portion of the game, but I did hear the announcers say that last season you only had 51 scholarship players and only 16 scholarship players on defense. Is this true? If so, what are the reasons for such thin numbers?

Honestly didn't realize this was the case. If true...well I hope we've corrected it. And that correction eventually pays dividends.

Healthy would be one thing, AState finished with less than 50 healthy last year. Total, would be another thing entirely.

I don't think you're allowed so few in FBS, however, injuries can explain a lot.

Now go recruit some athletes and get better.

You have to have 75 scholarship players to maintain FBS status, but it's a two-year rolling average.

On an unrelated note, I hear a couple of UAB refugees had a nice game for GSU.

Bobby Baker's playmaking was one of the few things to feel good about this game.

Due to APR issues NMSU had played with just over 60 scholarship players the last 5-7 years. This is the first year we are playing with over 80. Maybe an APR issue with Georgia St.

This was due to a combination of not having the max scholarship players available to start the season (which was because of roster mis-management and the transition) and injuries.

Really? This has been all over PantherTalk.com since last season.

When Ricky Bustle took over for the Coach "toothpick" Baldwin he had similar numbers. Reasons for this was recruiting classes that had great looking players who never got their high school diplomas, and losing a bunch of great players after a semester or two due to grades.

You can get down to upper forties in a hurry. This guy won three games in three years, left us bankrupt with players, and had the gall to sue us for discrimination. He was given thee seasons to crush the program and got paid for the remainder of his contract but sued because of racism, and not being allowed to coach.

I'm lab mix over there. I did stop by yesterday evening to see if I could take part in an online PFA (Panther Fans Anonymous) meeting.
