LAFAYETTE
Tribe an 8 point favorite according to 5Dimes.
Last of the four game series, Tribe up 2-1. Average score has been 27-14, Tribe. Lafayette has not reached 20 points in the first three games, the Tribe has gone over 30 in the last two games.
Lafayette's strength appears to be their defense, most returners back. They lost their star running back who gained near 100 at Zable last year. QB returns and there is a healthy competition for the slot this year.
Lafayette is picked mid pack for the Patriot though the League is tough to gauge. Their AD is former Tribe standout Bruce McCutcheon who played under Holtz and Root in the early 70s. The Patriot does now offer football scholarships.
Easy drive for anyone in the Northeast. Nice stadium and campus.
Weather looks to be fair.
Hope we are ready.

RE: LAFAYETTE
Lafayette is a strong PL team, but one that we should win by a wide margin; especially if this team is going to do what we think they can. If the WRs can step up and give Cluley targets, that opens up a lot of scoring options given our strong run game (deeper with Anderson officially back) and an O-line to give protection. Defense has the pieces and needs to fit them together.

RE: LAFAYETTE
Game notes are up on Tribeathletics.com. Of interest...
No Devonte Dedmon on two deep. Jack Armstrong (RFR) listed as starter.
Connor Hilland not on two deep. Jared Templeton listed as starter at guard.
Nick Easter not on two-deep.
Zach Fetters starting at SLB spot with Rhodes (ILB) and Haslip (WLB). No Marcus Harvey on two-deep.
Matt Ahola makes two-deep at DE. Good size.
True freshman walk-on kicker, Kris Hooper, listed as starting placekicker.
Looks like the OL depth gets put to use early and the young receivers will get some early game experience. Assuming Devonte will be back sooner than later, this may be a positive in the long run.
Go Tribe!

In the WR feature during camp, Dedmon didn't seem to be participating. On the media call yesterday, Laycock was asked if there are any major injuries and he said something to the effect of no major, but a couple minor things. Hopefully Dedmon is ready after the off week for a big game in Hooville.

Most telling stat from the LC Notes "Top Performances vs Lafayette"
Completed Passes: 9
Passing Yards: 146
Graham to Ballard in 2013 was our passing game. I still remember looking in amazement as Graham's QB sneak went for like 45 yards.

Lafayette has a real young o-line. I hope we tear them apart

Laycock encouraged by W&M's defensive progress up front
http://www.dailypress.com/sports/william...story.html
More bad news: Warhill High graduate DeVonte Dedmon, the Tribe's top returning receiver, is not expected to play Saturday because of an illness.
"Christian Reeves has had an outstanding preseason for us," Laycock said. "And we've got a couple of young guys, Daniel Kuzjak and Jack Armstrong, who have really come on. They've made their presence known (and) they'll be hard to keep out of the lineup.

Glad to see that it's an illness rather than an injury for Dedmon. He's going to be important for us this year.

RE: LAFAYETTE
Plan on coming but don't have tickets yet. See that they are not longer available on our website. Does anyone have a recommendation about whether I should buy them through Lafayette or if I'm safe to wait until day of? Or do we still have tix available if I call our ticket office?

Seem to think their big receivers need to take advantage of our small corners.
It's good of them to give us their game plan.
I'm thinking this one comes down to how the young offensive line of Lafayette fares against the relatively inexperienced defensive line of William & Mary, particularly at DE.
It seems to me that we will need to stuff the running game and pressure the QB to take pressure off of the corners. If we can do this without having to commit too many LBs and Safeties close to the los to do so, things should go well.

RE: LAFAYETTE
We killed them with passes in the flat to our RBs, QB scrambles, and hardnosed running. Mix in an occasional deep pass to keep their safeties humble and we win this game 38-12.

RE: LAFAYETTE
Interesting to see that it will be strength against strength (W&M O Line - Leopards front 7 on D, both experienced and deep) and inexperienced against inexperienced (Lafayette replacing 3 starters on O Line - Tribe replacing 3 starters on D Line). Tribe O Line needs to open holes for MAS while Cluley and his new receiving corp get used to each other. D Line needs to shut down their inexperienced running game.

If we keep pressure on their QB, we will be fine.

RE: LAFAYETTE
Good enough defensively to force a punt, but the DL was generating almost no pass rush
