Really all smiles hear, glad to have the Chants in the conference, Chinball Beach Chickens and Bald Eagles, birds of a Sun Belt feather 04-cheers

That might be my favorite Sun Belt logo yet. That looks pretty sharp (even though I still hate the color combo in general).

OK. Just do me a favor and make a note of this post date and time.

Kind of how I see it. CCU comes in in 2017. If we lose Idaho and NMSU that puts us back to a wonky eastern driven conference with only 9 football teams; which is less than we have now. I think we see something else happen near that time-frame and my vibe is we keep NMSU to stay at 10 for FB.

If not, do we then play a total round robin 8 game conference schedule and the CCG idea is totally dropped? That doesn't leave any wiggle room for the SBC if another round of musical chairs gets played.

????

If Idaho & NMSU leave after 2017 and CCU joins we won't be at 9 for football...

Without the 2 football only we have stAte, App, GSU, GS, CCU, Troy, USA, ULM, ULL, Texas St which is 10 full football members.

ok, add NMSU and one more from the east? I don't know. Drugs are a wonderful thing sometimes.

The Sun Belt will not drop NMSU and Idaho right away, if ever. Each football playing school is worth $1 million dollars of the Sun Belt's $12 million pay out from the CFP. With the addition of Coastal Carolina, Benson would probably like to keep the status quo now. The conference gets their full $12 million cut and now the additional money generated by a CCG. The only way NMSU and Idaho are on the chopping block is if James Madison and/or Missouri State come calling in the future.

However, with this decision to add Coastal Carolina, it put UMASS in a precarious situation; as they will need a new football home once the contract is up with the MAC.

What good does that extra $2 million do the conference if it is given to Idaho and NMSU? Does the conference only give a part of that payout to these two schools?

Congrats to Coastal. They will be a great addition to the Sunbelt.

(This comes from a Liberty fan as well. I've been to two games when LU was playing at Coastal. It's a really nice campus).

They have a very good baseball team, too.

If you go to an away game at Coastal, you can go to Litchfield Beach, it's a state park...It's closer to the campus than Myrtle. It cost me something like $6 bucks to park there and go onto the beach.

Congrats to Coastal. I think they will be a good add for the SBC.

I think the writing is on the wall for NMSU and Idaho. If the SBC is interested in EKU down the road, or if Missouri State decides next year they want to go FBS, then I could see NMSU getting a full-member invite, but IMO it is more likely to go the other way.

Still a part of the SBC for now though, and I will always be a fan of the conference no matter what happens.

I pretty much agree with everything you have said and I think NMSU gets that invite if UTA adds football at which point we drop Idaho or if UTA never makes a move we may add NMSU and another school in the future. For now (maybe several years) I think the Sun Belt may be set.

Yes and no. You guys get a chunk of our money for allowing us to be in the conference.

Good news as far as I'm concerned. I'd prefer CCU over all candidates minus Missouri State and New Mexico State. At that point, it is just close between the three.

Sun Belt baseball just reiterated itself as a top 10, top 5 conference with this move. Hopefully UTA can finally get over that hump...

Proof that the Sun Belt and I are thinking a lot alike.

Quote:Ultimately, I think the Sun Belt will go with one new member and that will be Coastal Carolina. They have the facilities, or the ability to upgrade the facilities, are competitive and decently attended. They fit the geographic need and have the ability to foster rivalries with several schools.

I think you're wrong. If anything, I think it keeps NMSU in the same spot as before.

Idaho's worst nightmare is for UTA to decide to want to pick up football. given that UALR (from what I understand) will have a football team about the same time the P5 decide on letting all conference champs into the playoffs... We will always have at least one non-football playing school.

Best case scenario for NMSU is Missouri State decides to join the party. Then you Olympic and Missouri State all sports enter the Sun Belt with Idaho leaving.

Well we just got to 12 teams so I don t see teams being cut out now. By July 1 2016 we either have to extend NMSU and Idaho for 2 more years thru 2019 or inform them 2017 will be their last in the Belt.

I think it is more likely they will be extended thru 2019. I just don t see NMSU being given an all sports invite.

This pretty much seals the deal that they are extended. If you wanted to cut Idaho, you add EKU and NMSU oly now so it balances by the time Idaho leaves.

Not sure what final verdict was but my understanding was they would only get a small portion and part goes to each Sun Belt traveling to them to help defray travel.
