RE: Medal of Honor Bowl may drop all-star format
Not wanting to fly 3/4 of the way across the country for Olympic sports is completely different from wanting a bus league.

As for the bowl I'd say adding one in Charleston would be great for now, but we do need one more I the west. Of course the idea of going to Boise instead of Charleston helps nobpdy in the conference except Idaho who is going to have a hard time qualifying. No reason the MAC and Sun Belt couldn't play in Charleston, but a SB vs CUSA matchup would make the most sense.

As for everyone else who knows. App and GS are big rivals but generally we are on the same page on pretty much any conference issue.

Its not about who supports Coastal, but rather who is opposed.

I've not heard of anyone against CCU, perhaps some indifference.

Confederate flag removal paves way for Charleston bowl game
Quote:McQueeney said he plans to hold discussions with every FBS league about affiliation with the Medal of Honor Bowl. The Sun Belt Conference, which includes Georgia Southern and Appalachian State among its 11 teams and is in discussions with Big South member Coastal Carolina, is “absolutely” interested in the Medal of Honor Bowl, commissioner Karl Benson said Thursday.

“We’ve had conversations with representatives from Charleston over the last two weeks, and absolutely are interested,” Benson said. “We currently have four guaranteed bowl spots, and we’ve had teams left out of bowls the last two years. We strongly believe we can fulfill a fifth bowl obligation.”

The Sun Belt has added agreements with bowls in Montgomery, Ala., and Orlando, Fla., in the last two years, Benson said.

Well if the MoH Bowl is NCAA certified, the SBC already has Georgia Southern & Appalachian State that are intimately familiar with Johnson Hagood Stadium. Coastal Carolina, the would be/ maybe member that's been there in 2014, would no doubt be South Carolina's favored son on the day they play there in a.bowl game. They'd most likely bring a good crowd as well.
Note: Johnson Hagood was a Confederate general, so they'd need to temporarily rename it something politically neutral like "The Palmetto State Stadium" or something to pass the PC litmus test.
We'd at least have maybe three schools that would guarantee to travel well there, I'd hasten to include Georgia State in that just yet since it doesn't appear they travel well to their own stadium 03-lmfao

I think App and Ga Southern fans could almost guarantee to fill over 50-75% the stadium themselves if selected. Coastal would travel well, perhaps not as well - but it would be convenient as hell.

The home side at Johnson Hagood is decent, but the visitor side is ******.

Also, parking is a bit of an issue there as well. Not sure how they'd handle a sell out.

I agree. JH is pretty much garbage. Decent home side, but every thing as far an infrastructure needs serious work.

The stadium looks serviceable to me, as good if not better then the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery. With these other bowls being added, in smaller stadiums, I'd like to see the New Orleans and Mobile bowls get P5 teams in the next contract. Leave the MAC and CUSA teams for the smaller stadium bowls.

I think the smaller stadiums are perfect size for some of our bowls, but imagine the New Orleans bowl with 40k Cajuns and 30k Texas A&M fans. That place would be rocking and rival any other bowl game in atmosphere.

Some P5 programs haven't traveled well recently that traditionally do. Georgia immediately comes to mind. To see these big venues partially full is a real downer even without a dog in the fight. I think some fan bases are so used to going bowling that if its a lower tier bowl they just aren't interested. Of course I don't care which bowl it is, if your team hasn't been to one ever that makes a difference.
Come to think of it, the "Diamond Bowl" has a familiar ring to it. I wonder where that came from ?

And that is the problem with every team with 6 wins getting in. You have to have a bad season, if not horrible, to not be bowl eligible. I can remember 8 win SEC teams not going bowling because there weren't 50 bowl games to go to. So it was a great reward to go because you had a great season. How do you think Alabama will travel if they were going to the Independence instead of the CFP, but the other side is Texas, would probably be happy to go to the Alamo since they have sucked it up recently. I believe there should be and will be a contraction of bowl games soon.

The two Alabama games are easy to reach for the Red Wolves, Cajuns, and Warhawks. Nothing easy to reach for Idaho or NMSU is likely to tie with us.

A Texas game would be a plus but Austin has dreams of Big XII vs another P5.

There are a few games I could see not being around in the next 5 years, the St Pete, Bahamas, any game in a baseball stadium. Those games either have poor attendance or horrible sight lines for fans or TV. In the Boise bowl this past year, the end zones still said Boise and Broncos in it. That should be a mandate to host a bowl game, prep the field accordingly.

And one last thing, no on campus bowl games!!!!

The B12 has 10 teams. They have 6 bowls plus a possible CFP shot. Do they really think they would get 7 or 8 of those 10 teams to games every year or.........do you think they would take the Austin Bowl and let another conference take one they already have or add yet 1 more?

Note: They did have 7 eligible last year but 2 of those teams were 6-6.

Do you realize how many are already on campus stadiums?

Then let them have another bowl. If they can't fill it, TXST should be a show in to replace them and it would get a more interesting matchup then playing the MACs number 5 or 6 team.

Maybe try to get a deal that the SBC is the backup for the bowl if it can't be filled.

Karl says adding Coastal will create further bowl conversations with Charleston's Medal of Honor Bowl.
