NMSU AD on Sun Belt Visit
Quote:Moccia acknowledged a Sun Belt Conference visit in Las Cruces early last week. But it could be up to a month before an invitation was extended to NMSU, Eastern Kentucky or Coastal Carolina. It's also possible the Sun Belt will not invite an additional member for the 2016-17 year.

"I felt like the presentation went outstanding, but we are still waiting," Moccia said.

Everything I have pasted above is all that was mentioned in the link below.

We'll let NMSU in if Arkansas State becomes App State's travel partner in basketball.

I think they would make a nice addition. Some conference stability and being in a conference with some good recruiting grounds will probably help elevate their football program beyond the 1-3 win team it often is. Basketball is already solid. Isn't baseball pretty strong at NMSU as well?

Distance aside, seems like a no brainer to add them for all sports.

I'm all for it if that means UALR can play us on Saturday's for like the first time in a decade.

It slid under the former coach who let the players control his team and was not recruiting well either.

The new one is getting his team together.

You can have UALR as you're travel partner, stAte doesn't need one.

Yup, NMSU had a fairly strong baseball program under Gary Ward's supervision. However, Rocky Ward, as NMSU's head coach, never had the same command of the game as his father. Hopefully, former Aggie player, Brian Green can get the program turned around. I have a feeling he will. NMSU's Baseball program is Mario Moccia's (our AD and also a former Aggie baseball player) pride and joy.

East: App/GaSt, GaSo/Troy, USA/ULM
West: ULL/TxSt, UALR/ArkSt, UTA/NMSU

Gets you:
1. Divisional play which reduces overall travel
2. 16 conference games instead of 20, allowing flexibility for OOC ( which hopefully strengthens the conference RPI )
3. Maintains home and home for all but two natural rivals
4. About the same trips within but an occasional flight for Arlington to Las Cruces.

Sold yet?

I'll repeat again next week.

For that bunch in Boone, you'll probably have to repeat more often . . . . 04-cheers

NMSU will not happen without a new full member in the east. NMSU needs to hope for both EKU and Coastal to be added or their membership will not be considered this round.

Oh my, we all didn't realize that you all, as a message board poster, wielded soooo much power. . . . . 03-lmfao

FWIW:

NMSU is a better add than EKU and Coastal combined . . . . .

RE: NMSU AD on Sun Belt Visit
I don't really care about a travel partner for app, I'm all for nmsu full membership, but I do believe that the next new addition should be in the east. I don't consider nmsu full a new addition but a common sense full inclusion

bobcat87, what is the next move for the SBC, not what you want to happen, but what you think will happen?

And the west will not be accepting two full members in the east, for one in the west.

Guess we're back at a standstill.
