RE: OT: Trump to fill Ladd-Peebles Stadium
I didn't go to the rally, but if it would have been on Saturday I might have ventured over there on pure curiosity. I'm not a big Trump fan, but if it came down to him or Hillary then he'd get my vote. The parties have become so polarized (as witnessed in some of the comments above) that a middle of the roader can't seem to identify with either one now. I think the support you're seeing with Trump is simply people looking for a change of course.

So we'll let all those in attendance go to their Baptist Church on Sunday and their job at the Alabama State Docks on Monday after going to see a thrice married gambling magnate who is against international trade on Friday night

Politics is funny. It really seems to me to be more tribal than anything else. Facts don't matter. Policies don't matter. Your personal financial position doesn't matter. But who the group you identify with says you should support seems to matter more than anything else.

Generalizing about a group of people and insinuating your superior morals, ethics, intellect, or whatever you're trying to imply is elite-ism at its best. I was there Friday and none of what you said applies to me or anyone that I was there with. Nor does it mean I would vote for the guy.

Kind of like Donald Trump generalizing about Mexicans? At least I didn't call those in attendance rapists...all I did was question their consistency.

And yes, if someone works in International trade and are providing support to Trump, then I'm going to question the thought process behind that.

And if someone is a member of a religion that has moralized against others repeatedly, or votes for and supports cretins like Mobile County Probate Judge Don Davis, while providing support for a philandering thrice married man, then I'm going to question the thought process behind that.

---

Trump hates anyone calling him out on anything. Because any criticism is 'elitism' to him. Sorry, we're gonna criticize and point out inconsistencies.

---

Of course there were a few non-evangelicals at the Trump fest. Of course there were a few that weren't supporting Trump but just wanted to see the show. But this looked like a tea party rally to me and it looked like a lot weren't even from Mobile.

---

Can we get casinos in Mobile now? Or at least allow the people living in the city of Mobile to vote on them?

Where were you sitting? Because to me it looked like the 3 or 4 rows around the podium were campaign workers that were going nuts at everything he said. Those of us in the east and west stands were there to hear what he had to say. Not everyone agreed with everything he said, including me. I'm not going to defend Trump on anything he says, because he says some stupid things, but your assertion that everyone there was an inconsistent religious freak is wrong. Were there some there? I'm sure there were. Were there any "international trade" workers there? I have no idea. By the way, what does someone from Mobile look like? Most of the people I saw there looked like my neighbors. Go Jags.

This is the important thing that all of us need to remember when it comes to political rally's. Just about anyone who is within photographer or camera range is a campaign worker, or die hard supporter who has been placed there by the campaign. They are told to go nuts. (Do you really think the people who happen to sit the front just happen to have large campaign signs with the popular slogan the politician is speaking about?)

At a large rally like this, you're going to have a decent sized number of people who go just because, not because they are serious supporters. Those people don't get noticed because they are not up front.

Generalizing everyone into a particular category is not fair to those who went without any afiliation to the Trump party. Sure, Trump has some die hards that likely fit Tom's generalizations...but they are the one's up front screaming like a little girl when he waves at them...not sitting in the back trying to make a voting decision.

TRUTH (the BOTTOM bolded). I know for a fact that when Bobby Jindal was running for Governor, a bunch of proud Indian-Americans grabbed all the seats in front of the podium at one of his campaign events. Shortly thereafter, they were reseated with no recourse because they didn't want "Bobby" to be associated with the nation of India in any way but to appear more like a good ole' Southern redneck to the media and the voters.

You're right. Politics has become like a religion. You are either right or left, neither side wants to hear what the other has to say. There's no such thing as compromise anymore. The mindset has changed in America from "what can we accomplish" to "how can we stop the other side from accomplishing their goals." Trump is actually moderate on a range of issues (gun control, abortion, healthcare, the Iraq War). I'm a registered independent. I just get a kick out of Trump driving the Democrat and Republican establishment nuts. I also would vote for him over Clinton.

Every time I see him speak I need to make sure I'm not drinking anything at the moment or I'd likely have it shooting out of my mouth as I break out in laughter. PURE entertainment.
