Is the ringing the bell thing any sort of long standing tradition at Idaho? Just seems like the players are being conditioned to accept that their personal best is....... Getting their bell rung.... My apologies if it is something long standing and important to the program. But if it is a Petrino thing, I'd pack it up and send it with him when \ if he goes.

I'm sure if he went to any of the dozen or more college teams with a victory bell they would happily accept it.

Petrino and the reporter come off as jackasses here, pretty embarrassing for any so called professionals.

Did anyone click on that video? Absolutely painful to watch. Poor concept, poorly written, poorly presented, poorly filmed, etc. I can't see how anyone could get excited about Idaho football after watching that (Petrino even seems like he's just going through the motions), nor do I expect it will generate any bump in ticket sales.

During the editing process someone should have had the courage to say, "this is awful, we'd be better off not to release this thing at all!"

You know, I tend to think that shows a guy who's uncomfortable with hype and silly bull****. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it doesn't make for a good season ticket sales commercial.

He's clearly not got his brother's gift of selling himself as a big shot.

IOW, neither side wins in this one. Neither "man" seems to have any bidness being involved with anything to do with Division 1 athletics.

And the media people wonder why some coaches close practice to them. I like it that PP is kicking butts and taking names.

I was listening to ESPN radio the other day and the host was just blasting this reporter for making this so personal. He mentioned that he'd been a sideline reporter in the past and that the job was to simply observe the team and to write about it and just how hard it is to hold onto credentials giving access to the team and coaches. He was certainly on Petrino's side, sharing his doubt about whether or not the beat writer was giving the WHOLE story.

The two reporters being screamed at account for greater than 85% of coverage of Vandal football. An even higher percentage if you do not count the school newspaper. I thought their coverage was pretty good and was for the most part positive. IMO Petrino has acted like an ass publicly a lot in his first 2 1/2 years. Do you generally put a lot faith in ESPN’s views? I do not.

Of course not. I just found it an interesting perspective from a media personality who once was a beat writer for college athletics.

I guess I could say: well he's a head coach, not an actor. But still. It's bad.

As to the whole flap over the coach and the reporter: both share the blame for what has happened since the incident. But the true fault lies with the coach. He could have just closed practices and offered access reporters after the practice if he had an issue. He also could have simply talked to the reporter instead of losing his professional demeanor. There were a lot of things that could have been done by Petrino and he chose to lose control.

The reporter is trying to get him fired or disciplined by publicizing the incident. The reporter must not care if he ever covers another vandal game again. Maybe as a result of what happened to him personally, it's completely understandable. But the root cause is a man in a leadership position that should have known better and it indicates Petrino has anger issues that need to be addressed before the school winds up in a lawsuit from inside or outside the university.
