Any time line on expansion decision?
It has been a week since the visits were complete. Any idea on when a decision will be announced for a new Belt team or more than 1?
CCU posters are very confident an invite is coming their way

Are you talking about on our board? They are tongue in cheek. One guys said he had it on good authority but then in micro sized font says that it was all a dream. As far as I'm aware - all we know is the visit went well and are waiting, hoping for the invite.

As to when, conference meetings are in October?
But Sun Belt was going to reassess football at the end of the season?
But then again, according to KB, the move is motivated by olympic scheduling, not football.
As to how many, we saw this, indicating it would be but one school:

I suspect that two or three more rounds of golf at Myrtle Beach will be required before such a difficult decision can be reached.

. . . . And perhaps another trip to The Bluegrass State to see The Run for The Roses
while sipping on a Mint Julep while in the company of a certain spokesperson for a certain chicken chain.. . .

Dang it, it was last month for FCS move ups. I guess we'll have to focus on FBS teams...

If I remember reading it correctly, Troy's Chancellor indicated it would be a few weeks after the NMSU visit. President's have yet to get together, and the committee has yet to make a recommendation.

plus, presidents don't have to vote in line with committee recommendation. they could add no one, 1, 2,or 3. the committee and benson says it the sun belts plan to get one more, however I usually get the feeling that what's said, and what's done, don't match up when discussing sun belt issues.

great points. this goes right in line with my other post about sun belt confusion. maybe they will decide a few weeks after all campus visits, but sit tight on it until after football season, reassess their decision, then announce the new decisions at conference meetings.

I'm sure at this point they would at least wait until the fcs playoffs are over to avoid b I got ineligible.

At this point, even if an FCS team was invited... It shouldn't affect their playoff ability, should it?
I mean, schedules are set, rosters are not going to go beyond the FCS limit... The only thing that would (ACTUALLY) happen is a team announcing it's intent to file paperwork to move to FBS with a Sun Belt invitation for the next "athletic year"... right?

That team's conference, could vote to make that team ineligible for the conference title & it's auto-bid for the playoffs.....that's what the CAA did to ODU a few years back.....but if you're a highly ranked team you'll get an at-large bid

When you announce an FBS move, you retain FBS eligibility with the NCAA until you file with the NCAA itself. We're going to announce early because we want a member for next fall, but they'll still be eligible for NCAA playoffs. (Conference could make them ineligible for league championships if they are mean, but I don't see the OVC and Big South doing that respectively.

RE: Any time line on expansion decision?
My hunch is we'll get an official announcement sooner than later just because the SBC is hoping to have a team in for 2016-17. EKU AD said they would join in oly sports for 2016-17. Just for scheduling and everything else it would just make sense that it be settled and announced sooner than later. Now if the timeline has changed at they aren't pushing for 2016-17 then there could be a delay.
They could choose to delay the formal announcement but I imagine it would leak sometime between the decision, discussion with the future school(s) and as they negotiate with their current conference.

In the Big South I think the contract states (or at least the one I read from 2012) states that a team who declares with less than 2 years would lose all conference privileges. It doesn't specify that the autobid is a privilege but I think it could be. I believe Stony Brook when they left the Big South were still eligible - but they were only affiliates and not sure if they gave 2 years or not.

With the team we have this season, coupled with a really soft schedule, we'd make the playoffs as an at-large even if we were ineligible for a conference title.
