Top Florida Athlete Commits to UL Baseball
[Image: 1564150.jpg?w=600&fit=max]

Quote:The Ragin' Cajuns Baseball program is off to a fast start in putting together a very good 2016 recruiting class with another high profile commitment. Florida prep athlete Todd Lott a (6'4,220) pound outfielder out of Coast, Florida joined the list of commitments in the Ragin' Cajuns 2016 recruiting class. Perfect Game voted Lott as Florida’s #5 ranked outfielder in the 2016 class.

Coastal Prospect Coach Dan Corsi congratulated his player on his commitment to the Ragin' Cajuns program.

"Todd has been an outstanding player for us the past few years. He had a terrific summer as our #3 hitter on a highly competitive 17u team. He earned national attention at the Prestigious Perfect Game National Showcase in late July. Perfect Game voted the 6’4? 220 pounder as Florida’s #5 ranked outfielder in the 2016 class. Todd became a must have recruit for many DI schools after his goliath offensive performance at the Nations biggest event, the WWBA 17U National Championships. He led us with a .620 batting average during the week. He saved his best for LakePoint as many of the colleges migrated there. Not only did he hit a 395 ft. blast with eyes on him, he sealed the deal with a 3 hit game versus a Mississippi St. signee in the playoffs."

Hope he doesn't have a really good Senior season or you can expect him to get drafted. It's happened to TXST a few times the past few years...always sucks to lose a kid to the draft before he ever steps foot on campus.

Indeed, though that's the price you pay going after the best. We've got a committment from a kid out of Eunice, La who had major league offers but they weren't strong enough to change his mind about playing for the Cajuns and Coach Robicheaux. I hope that's the same here as well.

If he signs during the early signing period (November/December), that will be before his senior season.

And if a MLB team offers him a $450,000 signing bonus in June, it doesn't matter what he did in November/December. Early signing means that he won't sign with another school, not that he won't sign with an MLB team...big difference.

I hope he's worth a $450,000 signing bonus.

Just to be clear, about what round would you think justifies a 450K signing bonus?

Like Fanatico I hope he is worth 450K signing bonus.

Look, I understand your pain, TxSt should have great baseball, yet they don't because they sign all these major league prospects.

We hsd three incoming freshmen is years class that didn't get drafted because they set such a high dollar requirement and another juco and I'm pretty sure all were much more than $450K.

When was the last time you were back to back years a game or 2 away from the CWS? Ranked #1 in the country? Finished #16 and return all pitchers but one? We are in a little different situation currently. We just signed the top 2 pitchers in louisuana that nobody thought Woukd make it to campus. These kids believe in what we have going right now, national title isn't just coach speak around here. Not saying we can or won't lose guys in the draft because we will but it will take more than a bag a peanuts and a bus ride to sign them.

Listen guys....I wasn't trying to talk bad about UL, your team's recent success, or make it seem like TXST is only being held back by signing kids that are being drafted.

I was just trying to temper expectations that sometimes (uniquely in baseball) it hurts you to get such a good recruit...it has happened to us a few times in the past few years and it always sucks...you get excited about a kid but never get to see him play for your school...

Then someone incorrectly pointed out that you should be safe because he will sign before the draft...I corrected him.

I'm sorry if at any point you interpreted the tone or the meaning any differently.

Plus there's other aspects to this. You get a guy who turns down that draft offer and is a total bust in college. We had one of them. Sure, somehow he finally made it to to milb but he can't crack a .150 BA. I'm befuddled as to why they haven't released him yet.

Or...you have a player come out of nowhere (Paul Goldschmidt)

Hope you guys get to keep him and he tears it up for 4 years in the SBC.

I didnt take it any kind of way, we recently have held on to guys that we normally would have lost. Most of their comments in interviews are about wanting to go to omaha and winning a national title as well as playing for coach robe. It's not something we were always able to sell to recruits and actually believe it. Im not saying we won't ever lose any because we will, that's all. We have a window here with these pitchers that will keep that possibility open for at least the next 3 or 4 years.
