Scarbo: Bill Clark's agents: We trust his new UAB deal will get done the right way
Well- while no new info in this, it is very interesting to hear this "be patient" mantra from Coach Clark's agents (via Scarbinsky).

From this description this is going to be a very unusual contract. I think he must be getting some stuff written in regarding facility upgrades and NCAA rulings that most guys don't have to. To me this is both encouraging and pretty sad at the same time

Even if it were a "normal" contract, UAB needs to know the parameters that the NCAA will require before signing any contracts with anyone. Clark is "under contract" in some form or fashion for the rest of this year, so it's not like they have to be in a super huge rush to make sure he gets paid.

On the other hand, they do need to start announcing something because they're not getting a dime from me until they release details on what is going on. Football hasn't been reinstated yet.

It was designed to keep pressure on UAB. Keep the pressure on Ingram and Kahn. Trust me on this. ;-)

The key takeaway from this is "... the right way.".

Like I've said before, UAB is about to learn the hard way about doing things right and above board. The "stupid tax" in this case will be borne by us but it'll be in writing

That's my earnest desire: facilities written into his contract... if that happens and it is supported by the admin (and ultimately the mis-Trustees), I'll fall off my chair. Perhaps the "being patient" is awaiting a certain crony to retire...

How would that work? If Clark leaves in a year or two for a better job, and the contract is bought out, are the facilities in his contract null and void? Or if he is dismissed for whatever reason? What becomes of the facilities then?

Let's say he gets facilities tied to his contract, goes 10-1 in his first year and is hired away by a bigger school. Where does that leave what was promised but not yet built in the contract.

We need some other guarantee other than a coach's contract that improvements will be made.

There is no "normal" with regard to UAB football. We're not allowed normal.

The plan is to break ground on facilities before Clark coaches another game. Without the facilities in the contract the Board (UAB) can drag it out until we all give up. This is very important. Keep the pressure on the admin.

+1 I think getting facilities in Coach Clarke' s contract is a great idea. It could embarrass the BOT if they renege .

Too answer the legal obligation to Coach Clarke would end if he left for another job. If the facilities are started before that future date they are likely to be finished regardless of whether he is still here. In fact all such contracts are as practical matter are not formally enforceable because no coach will sue while still coaching, As AB states that is why it is so important to get it started ASAP.

The biggest impediment to an immediate start would be the completion of the facilities fundraising. My best guess is ten to thirteen million will be needed for practice facility, football offices etc. for the needed initial projects. I think we have pledged between 3 million (announcement time) and 5.5 million by Justin. Ingram with would like to do so this summer.

The BOT would be embarrassed if they reneged on Bama. History has proven that they cannot be embarrassed for reneging on anything regarding UAB. The idea that UAB can shame the BOT has long since been proven false.

I would not be surprised that if Clark left before any facilities were started and not completed, there would be a hole in the ground and unfinished work. And UAB would not push the issue as long as the current administration is around.

Add to those considerations, the probability that without additional new facilities for team prep and organization, we would be doomed to thinking of 6-6 and 7-5 records as good seasons as in 2014. Since we want UAB to at least play at the top levels of C-USA, those improved facilities are essential to our ambitions.

Appears to be a classic case of an agent using the media to manipulate a situation.

Seems like they have a better plan than Direct Communications and Sard Verbinnen did/has.

Is Watts still trying to play the spoiler or is Ingram just not good at contract negotiations?
