Entrance and Exit Fees
Does anyone think that any SBC team would accept a CUSA invite with a 2 to 2.5 million SBC exit fee and a 2 million CUSA entry fee?

If you were to ask a coosa fan, they'd tell you every team and their mama would...

RE: Entrance and Exit Fees
I think the passing of the exit fee means nobody felt their odds of moving on were very good, so they wanted to make sure anyone else getting that look had to pay.

So while I don't know if it will deter other teams from leaving, I think it said a lot about what the current landscape said.

I doubt anyone would do it until CUSA gets their new TV Deal and even then maybe not.

Is every SBC member subject to the $2M-$2.5M exit fee? I thought that the founding members of the conference were exempt from it.

Yeah, Like our AD's recent raises, we'll just pass the costs along to our student body.

Uh... this is the Sun Belt; otherwise known as Klownshow Karl's Konference. Who knows what is going on in the deep recesses of Klownshow Karl's mind?

That will stop stAte or at least make them take a hard look and crunch the numbers. For the past few years our admin and AD have talked about what makes financial sense. I don't think the #s shook out for stAte before, and 4.5 million w/o a quick return and a positive projected return moving forward doesn't make that conference more attractive. Now the AAC would be a different story, but not CUSA

RE: Entrance and Exit Fees
If there is major shakeup in conference realignment, Big 12 loses and adds a lot, the obviously the AAC will be adding teams. I don't think, due to the last round, that being in CUSA is necessarily a prerequisite for going into the AAC. I could see them going after the best from any of the remaining conferences, MAC, SBC and CUSA. With that, there is t any real reason to jump from SBC to CUS, pay the fee and not make any more money.

Build what we have, the only way it will get better is with loyalty from the schools to stay together and build the brand of the conference.

RE: Entrance and Exit Fees
You can probably defer future earnings from the new conference to payoff the entrance fee. So really, you just have to address the exit fee.

RE: Entrance and Exit Fees
$4.5M would need to be justified. With the additional bowl tie ins the difference there is minimal. It would come down to the following:

- additional TV revenue (I'd be skeptical of their next deal)
- does CUSA get back to more than one NCAA bid (currently not)
- travel costs/savings (who is left in CUSA vs. who is added to SBC)

With UTEP, UTSA, UNT and Rice, this would be the only benefit for TXST but I'm not one that would be all enthused about that move other than possibly getting to more away games.

Not that we're on anyone's watch list, but we couldn't afford it. I bet ULM couldn't either.

I'd wager if you guys were offered, you'd make it work.

95% of the time, the conferences will accept a payout schedule, so you can minimize individual year costs. Plus, the bump in television revenue (short-lived though it may be) would help make the costs more palatable.

From what I can gather the deal pays each school $1M a year at 14 members. When does their deal end, 2017?

Seems like a gamble.

GaSouthern would also have to factor in the costs to get back into the Belt a few years down the road.

If you add in the loss of conference revenue for that last season, a team is looking at about $6 million to leave the SBC. Even if the CUSA TV revenue stayed at $1 million per school per year, it does not seem to be worth it.

Unless your Texas State. The opportunity to get in a conference with four other Texas schools would be hard to resist. Also, the bowl tie-ins are better in CUSA for Texas State.

Kan Karl unilaterally impose Konference exit fees?
